I used to shoot with a fellow who shot flint locks almost exclusively. He always had that hesitation between the flint drop and the main charge ignition. He always held steady and was very difficult to beat at target shooting. I have never seen a flintlock that was instantaneous. It just seems to be the nature of the beast.
