Gun shop incident

I was in a gun shop on Saturday to buy an excellent used Remington 1100 12 gauge semi-auto. The paperwork was completed and I put the shotgun in a case. The store policy is that one if their staff have to carry firearms from the gun department to the checkout counter. As the clerk picked up the gun case, the Remington slid out and smacked the tile floor breaking the buttplate and cracking the butstock. The clerk was really upset and I felt bad for him. I did not pick up the shotgun and left the store.

Today I learned that my gunsmith has two brand new Remington 1100 replacement stocks and forends at discount prices. I called the gun shop and told them to discount the 1100 and I would buy. They did lower the price and I pick it up on Friday. I like a story that ends well. Take care...

Old adage in the retail business; "You break it you own it." If you had done the deed you would have owned it, so turn about is fair. Sad part of the story is that many shops today do not even have a person on staff that can change out parts. Used guns come and go, as is, the guys behind the counter have no clue about working condition.

At one time, years ago, every used gun in a shop was gone through to make sure it was in good shape before it went in the rack or in the counter.

Since the gunshop acted fairly and treated you well, I think it would be appropriate to publish the name of the gunshop. They deserve "kudo's."

The gun shop involved was a local operation that I have patronized for years. I thanked them for working out this problem and continue to visit them. It would not be appropriate to name a local gun shop on this forum. Take care...

Joe,
I agree with you. For all we know the salesperson may have been "docked" from his weekly pay for the incident. Times are hard and an unfortunate mishap may have made it harder on the lad.
