December 16, 1944- The Battle of the Bulge.
Today marks the LAST German Offensive of WWII. Unfortunately most high school and college students never heard about this offensive that American soldiers endured. I was but 11 days old and thus too young to carry a Garand. I have made up for it by obtaining a few since.
I was very fortunate to have High School teachers who were male veterans of WWII. My favorite was John Hepp, who was my 10th grade history teacher and a Lt. in the 101st Airborne Division at Bastonge in December 1944. He talked about his Christmas 1944 to my class. No such living history is available to high school or college students today. I see on TV that college students need "Safe Space" and must pet a rabbit or pony to deal with their stress. Too bad they were not drafted and serving in Bastonge in December 1944! Adam
