I agree. The passing of Curt Gowdy is the further erosion of the fine caliber of sportscasting that I grew up with, the kind of sportscasting that set the standards that today's announcers can only pretend to emulate. It was a great, yet bygone era that can't be duplicated.
I have fond memories of watching The American Outdoorsman show and ABC's Wide World of Sports with my dad growing up, and enjoying the Curt Gowdys and Pat Summeralls of sportscasting that made such entertainment experiences famous. Thanks, Curt. You are a legend. |

I watched American Sportsman with a passion. Curt Gowdy's voice and face will always be remembered. The Voice of the Red Sox for many years and a terrific football announcer and NBC for years.
Mr Gowdy is an icon in Wyoming and has had a state park named after him over 20 years ago or more that I know of. I will probably get up there this fall and cast a flyline in his memory in the state he loved. |
