Ed,
That isn't completely unheard of. Maryland used to have a statute that prevented a minor child from suing a parent as a result of a car crash. However, they changed that law several years ago and made it that a child could sue a parent for a maximum amount of $25,000 as a result of a car accident. That amount might have changed, but I haven't had the need to look it up recently. Suing a spouse or parent for being negligent behind the wheel makes some sense. In Maryland, funds recovered for a personal injury action are not considered marital assets, so the wife, had she lived, would have been able to divorce that moron and take the money with her. The money that the daughter received would have gone to a trust account for the benefit of the daughter and the father would have to petition the Court every time he wanted to take money out of the trust fund. As far as him being the beneficiary under his wife's estate, that would make me sick. However, I know there is a rule that you cannot inherit under an estate if you had something to do with the death of the person, so maybe the money went elsewhere. Hopefully, he feels bad enough and God is punishing him by leaving him alive. Something also tells me that he suffered pretty severe injuries too.

Fabs,
As you know, life just does not end up, happy ever after. The sucker had a bruise on his forehead, not a scratch otherwise. He had apparently swerved to the left and the right front quarter took the impact. This deal did not go to court. The company settled outside the court room door, just prior to trial. They knew it was like shooting fish in a barrel. "Mr Defendant were you neglegent in the accident, yes I was." TIMBER. I gave you the A-Z in 3 seconds. It actually was a bit more involved and in the end, he effectivly ended up with the money. Perhaps the illgotten gains have corrupted his existance.... one can only hope. Ed

Those are the people you want to hurt. What amazes me is the number of stupid people that have tons of money, and enough money to get themselves into plenty of trouble. Utterly amazing.
According to Maryland law, one third of the wife's estate would have gone to the child in trust if the child is a minor. Hopefully, the child got plenty of money out of this disaster and hopefully she will know how to use it better than her dad.

caliphornia insanity
i have been a resident of the PRK most of my life; in the san diego area before i retired and moved north.
the state legislature is obsessed with anti-gun legislation. every session there are numerous firearms/ammunition laws introduced/proposed. their prime concern is the gang-related firearms activities. which is understandable, however...they take the approach of "the floggings will continue until moral improves" a-la-british navy. the citizens of kaliphornia do not realize how close we are to being openly declared as a "police" state. like our congress, the kaliphornia state legislature is strangled by dumbacrats and i do believe there are only a few that are really worth their salt. bring up the state legislatures website and look at their voting record when it comes to anti-firearm proposals. it's stunning! (and i don't mean in a good way) their anti-gun stance is one of the reasons my wife and i are looking to relocate to arizona soon.
