Ok Thats It!
I am SICK of being run off the road on my way to work in my danged work car! This thing is naturally a 4 door beer can with plastic wrap that nearly bottoms out when you try to clear a speed bump!
Heres what I am thinking about. 1. I need truck. PERIOD 2. gas milage WOULD be nice. 3. I will be adding on add-ons (Roll bar, brush guard, side pipe steps, anti-sway bars, and possibly a wench.) 4. I like chevy's. 5. I DON'T want another $250+ a month vehicle payment. 6. My wife (Who now has a job) says I ain't gettin' the blazer back so tough luck on that angle. 7. (Edited to add) I prefere short wheel based trucks for driving to an fro. ANY Ideas? ANYBODY? Thanks GoodOlBoy

I'm looking at a Toyota. Not too bad all around. I'm a little shall we say vertically challenged(OK Fat Man) and I seem to fit OK. Gas mileage is better than average. Quality is there. Short wheel base is available. Add on's available. Car payment, well you get what you pay for.

what kind of car are you driving now?
why not buy yourself a used s-10 blazer or a s-10 4x 4 if you go chevy My personal opinion, is that you cannot go wrong with a v6 BroncoII. They are short, got plenty of pep. Many many have lasted well into the mid to upper 100,000 mile range and are still going, they turn on a dime and have pretty good 4x4 mechanisms in them. The 4WD system in my Bronco II gets better traction than my wifes 4 Runner |

Although I just bought a 2003 Chevy, I'll probably buy Toyota again next time. Nothing really wrong w/ the Chevy. It's just not as solid as the Toyota I owned before this one. A few rattles and pops here and there. I've never been a Ford person as all of my buddies except for a few own them. And well...I'm just not impressed. I got over 200,000 miles out of my V-6 Toyota. And those were hard miles. Runnin hounds, being young and dumb playin in the mud. All that foolishness. Never had a single problem other than normal wear and tear replacements. Got 170,000 out of the clutch.

If you are any size in Stature the toyota might not be the truck for you
I am over 6 feet and around 270 pounds and I just don'r fir into the Toy trucks Try one of the smaller Chevs or GM trucks or Blazers If not go to a Jeep if you want a short wheel base and don't want to haul a whole load of stuff or if you want to haul a little bit in a trailer JMO

Omega,
I like your truck. Here is a picture of mine. I also drive a 1998 Taurus and I have noticed one heck of a difference in the way people around the DC metro area treat me when I am driving them. When I put the turn signal on to the Taurus, the person behind me in the lane I am trying to merge into speeds up to try and cut down the gap and cut me off. It almost makes me not want to put the turn signal on in the Taurus. People also tail gate me sometimes. These have both been pet peeves of mine 10+ years now. On the other hand, nobody tail gates me in the truck and when I put the turn signal on, people behind me and even people right beside me right next to the box of the truck, end up slowing down and giving me room to merge. I really like the winch mount and winch on your truck. Who makes the winch mount and what winch is that? I have been looking at Warn winches but haven't decided which winch to get yet. I was thinking about getting Warn's hitch mount winch system so that I could use the winch on the front or back of the truck, but I still want to get a brush guard for the truck too.

The ford crew cab diesel is a real man's truck. I'm going to buy my dad's sometime and will put on a grille guard and tool box. When we took it to DC I thought it would be tough to drive, nope, the cars were afraid of it, different story when driving a car tho. Pulls great with pretty good mileage too.

The DC metro area is full of a bunch of liberals and they are either rick and drive a Lexus, Mercedes, or Infinit or they are a tree hugger that drives the smallest, most efficient car possible because they don't want to pollute the enviornment. They have probably never driven a truck in their life and they are scared by their size. Some of my clients cannot believe that I have that truck in the driveway, but my construction clients love it.

They also think those little yuppy cars are macho machines that can go and stop on wet, icy, or snow covered roads at 80 mph, and they hate service vans like the one I drive but then these are the same people who welcome the plumber at the front door when their toilet is clogged then ask us to leave through the back door so their neighbors cant see us.

Iffin it's a Chevy you want..
git ya an old 75 er so..(I'm particular to them body styles) and cram a crate motor in it. Even Jeg's can git ya a 4 bolt main fer right round $1,000 and a few simple mods to boot. The BEST thing bout them ole trucks, is that you can gits parts fer em a dime a dozen. A nice lookin one will hold it's resale value..esp iffin it's a 4x4..and those old body styles are a cinch to bolt add ons to. The insurance on em is cheaper than dirt..so is taxes. (That can be yer excuse fer the hefty 350 gas guzzler you got in it ) Even iffin the body aint in that great a shape, you can stick a pair of 33's and some nice lookin wheels on it, shine er up w/ some addons...and any redneck'll round will give ya plenty fer it iffin you needed to sell it. Best of all, it's paid fer and is plenty do-able (round these parts anyways) fer under 2 grand.

You got the idea Lilred! My beater is an 89 GMC 4wd dually. Jasper crate motor, junk yard bed when I got rid of the flat bed which came on it, 37 inch tires, camo paint job from Walmart spray cans, gun rack on inside of rear window, sticker on outside of window with a duck call and a caption which says blow this, rebel flag on front pipe bumper, bench seat that always smells like my DOGS, and of course a cb and scanner mounted on the ceiling of the cab. When I aint in my Rubi this hillbilly knows how to go redneckin.

Over the years I have found the 4X4 gets me in enough trouble without the winch there to get me in deeper lol.
