Wanted: .22 rifle scope for silhouette shooting.
My club is starting a silhouette shoot and I need a new scope suitable for this. It needs to have very repeatable elevation adjustments.
Does anybody out there know of an entry level model I should be looking for on ebay or other auction site? Thanks.

Blktail... I'm assuming you're shooting maximum about 110yards. How much power can you hold steady at that distance? Small targets would require a samll cross hair as not to eliminate the target view. Some people can go straight to a 16 power, others opt to start with a variable to see how their skill develop. If I were getting into entry level, I think I'd be trying a variable up to around 16 power. A lot of companies make 4-12 that might be a good option. I know some have started with BSA and Sightron with no problems. Some lower end optics have too thick of crosshair for this application. Adjustablility is a concern but you also need quality ammo that shoots where you aim in order to determine if the clicks on the scope are proper. If you have some club members already shooting maybe you could look at what they have and get a better feel for your preference. I am not a silhoutte shooter and better advice may be just around the corner.

Thanks Ol Spark
I am not steady enough to hold more than 6 power, so a variable 3-9 would be a good start. Reloading data is no help as we will be shooting rimfires. There are no club members as yet to ask advice. Maybe after the first meeting on the subject. Others have recommended a mildot scope, but I have never seen one. There are some cheapies on ebay, and it may be the way to go. Cheap will not have the best adjustments, but with a mildot scope I may not need to make adjustments. It should be a fun sport and just what I need to work on my flinch! All the best to ya.

I think the sport would be exciting. I just have too many irons in the fire. I watched a TV show once about the Junior National at Ridgeway, Pa. A couple of gals were explaining how they had the advantage because they can throw their hip out for better support. Men just can't seem to do that. I thought that comment was rather amusing. Just think, a sport that your female companion has the advantage. What a way to get her interested in it also. That way you wouldn't have to explain the need for better optics. She would know first hand.

silhouette shooting
Hey Spark
That girl silhouette shooter from Ridgway is my granddaughter and she is not even 100 pounds but she can throw her hip out and shoot a full size rifle. 12 years old and she's kicking butt. She's already set National records. ....Proud as hell Grandpa. dunwerkin |

Dunwerkin;
I'd be a proud grandpa too. No argument about her kickin' butt. Congrats to you and her. I like to see young people find a niche sport they love, stick to it and become a prominent figure in that sport. I take it from your user name that you are retired. Do you spend much time with her shooting? Are you talking about the Groves, Amanda and Angela or someone else? Either way congrats.

Spark.
No ,The girl I am talking about is Emily Holsopple. She's younger than the Grove twins but does shoot with them for the team events. The Groves have 3 daughters shooting and they are all something to behold. I just hope that all those girls can stay on track and that the politically correct crowd doesn't get to them because it isn't ' proper' for girls to be shooting. It's great to go the matches at Ridgway and see the number of young girls that are shooting. They are all darn good offhand shooters. Your assumption about my age was correct. Yes I have been retired for quite a few years now, butI still get out shooting on a regular basis. It's a great sport. dunwerkin

Dunwerkin...
I"d love to go see one of those matches. Maybe you can drop me a PM with a date or something of some upcoming matches. I agree with you on the political correctness bit. I think it's terrific those girls are doing it better that most guys. Keep on encouraging her. I remember your granddaughters name also. Don't know where I read it or saw it but she is making a name for herself also. Tell her that all the HuntChatters are rootin' for her. Keep up the good work.

Here's some dates of the smallbore matches at Ridgway. April 16&30 May 1 & 29 June 18 July16 August 20 & 21 Pa.State Championship. If you want to watch the girls shoot, prolly the best Match to attend would be the States in August. All three of the Grove girls will be shooting in that one as well as my granddaughter. April Grove and Emily Holsopple shot in the Hi Power Matches last year too. Amanda and Angela shot smallbore only. Keep in mind that these girls are standing shoulder to shoulder and shooting shot for shot with the best Silhouette shooters in the country. We're talking Senior Shooters. They are not seperated as Juniors. Talk about pressure. Do you know the Groves?

Thanks for the dates. I'll make it a point to be there for at least one match. I know they can all probably clean my clock when it comes to shooting that sport.
No, I don't know the Groeves personally . I only know of them. Different stories and ads. That's probably where I'm familiar with Emily's name as well. Maybe I could get her to give me a lesson or two. Except my fat gut would prevent me from throwing out my hip. hehehe Good luck and keep them gals shootin'.
