I know it is different with each dog but at what age does a dog normally first come into heat?

Usually somewhere around nine months. Sometimes it's a little later than that. Then it's every six months, usually.

Leeann is now 16 months and hasnt come in to heat yet so I guess it could happen any time. I havent had her spayed yet but think it might be a wise thing to do.

16months and she hasn't had a heat? that's odd...you sure? she could just be very clean so you hadn't noticed anything...

you don't have to wait for them to have their first heat to have them spayed....

we've waited for Cat but that's only because her growth was seriously set back before we got her so we're giving her every chance to do all the growing she can before we get her done.
