.22 rimfire any good?

You can pick-up a good .22 about any where. Wally World is always close and easy.

I love .22's, My latest is a little Savage bolt action that I picked up at a local gun shop out of the used rack. $60 and it shoots better than I can shoot it. Another $40 for a 3x9 Bushnell and I've got a great little plinker, gopher gun for about $100.

Check out your local gun shop's used rack, little risk buying a used .22.

A ruger 10/22 is awesome but just about any 22 made by the "heard of" companys will do

thank you all for the info. I guess ill narrow it down a little if thats ok. how about a semi auto 22 that i can take around for plinking small game. any brand names would help a lot, as if you guys havent helped out already.

If you are still looking for a 22 check dunhams they still have the romain 22s preaty cheep and they shoot preaty good
If you still want a sem auto go with the rugers 10/22 but i like bolts becouse every one shots and you should never have a feed problim some 22 autos seems that all they do is jam.

As already stated...A Ruger 10-22 is probably the best way to go. But most any 22 with any kind of name is gonna be ok..Glad to see ya posting again KK Wish you were closer..I only have 40-60 22's around here....and they all shoot pretty well.

thanks again for all your help it is greatly appreciated. i am going to do some searching. i already found a sportsmens store a stone's throw away, but they do not have a FFR license or something so all guns they carry are muzzleloaders, but he said he will give me a discount on 22 thunderbolt packs because he just wants to get rid of them.(i live in the boonies can u tell?)

Savage has some excellent, yet cheap 22 rimfire rifles. Their model 64 can be purchased even at a Wal Mart for $100. This rifle is a semi auto featuring a 10 round clip, and some models have varmint rifles. I myself have a lot of experience shooting this rifle, and I am impressed with its accuracy. It's great for all day plinking, and is pretty fast. It's available with iron sights and is fit for mounting a scope. You should try and put a little research into this rifle, for it is a pigeon master.

ill do some research on the savage. what i havent heard anyone speaking of is mossberg. we have a mossberg 22 from and its probly 50-70 years old. when i looked at it, it seemed like an m1 garand. any owners of mossbergs, i would like to know how good yours is.

You might need to recrown the muzzle, but some old .22's can shoot as well as anything new off the shelf.
As for the name I duno how well Mossberg quality was over 50yrs ago? The best way to find out is to put a few hundred rounds through it.

Try different types of ammo as well. Each individual rimfire likes different ammo. Sometimes the gun can be as picky as a names lot#, or it might eat anything ya feed it.

If you get a new one I would suggest a Ruger 10/22 or a Savage. You might find some other used ones in the newspaper or swapsheet.
Whatever you do, dont be in a hurry to buy. Their is always a deal to be found with rimfires.

yea thats what my dad tells me and thats what im gonna do now . all i do is research research and then research on the research. but im narrowing it down slowly.

Their is more rimfires than people in the market. Its simple Supply & Demand.

Having a junker is just fine anyhow. I killed hundreds if not thousands (now I think abou it I have put down a HUGE number) of treerats, bunnies, etc with .22's that should have been melted down for scrap. Their is almost pride in it for me.
Once you find something YOU LOVE spending the extra money is worth it.

Most Mossbergs were great rifles. I have one (bolt action) that I regularly clip birds heads off with at 50-70 yards.

The down side of many older 22's is that they won't accept a scope.
