Who else likes shooting their Lugers?

I just got my second and third Luger Model P-08 Pistoles this past week. I am amazed that they all "digest" any and all factory loads I put into the mags. Georg Luger got it right from the get go.

I know folks who have Lugers and have yet to shoot them for the first time. One guy I know has a "1937" dated P-08 that has yet to be fired, if and when it EVER goes bang. Wotever. If you have a Luger P-08, do it a favor and go shoot it. Georg Luger meant for his guns to go "bang." Ok, so go "bang" and see what a Luger is all about.

I'd LOVE to shoot my luger.......if I had one! THe prices on those guns have gone from ridiculous to beyond! I saw one at a pawn shop last Saturday....nothing special; parts didn't match, gun was VERY worn, not much bluing left at all. The asking price: $650!!! This was a 9mm, but a lot of what I am seeing showing up in gun cases are chambered for .30 Luger; almost impossible to find loaded ammo and impossible to find reloading components/info.
BTW, the guns point like a dream, but the sights are horrible!

I looked for a few years before I got my Lugers; all were from WWII veterans (or their widows) and one has the "capture papers." All mine are matching and are dated "1938, 1939 and 1940." Fortunately, I have 98k rifles that match these dates and will be sold as "sets" after my demise. The most I ever paid was $400 for a 9mm Luger.

The "1940" Luger was taken off a captured German who also had an M-1 Carbine when captured in the Bulge in late December 1944. The veteran was not allowed to send the Carbine home, but he had the papers for the Luger, which I now have.

Yes, the nice Lugers are getting harder to find.

I only have two, both matching 1917 DWMs. I have shot them before but recently striped, cleaned and greased them. I might buy a parts gun or WW2 production for shooting fun but am a bit hesitant to risk these any more. I recently found a repro stock for the Arty, maybe someday will add an original.

Nice photos of very nice iron. I think I recall you live in a British Possession, or former British colony. How stringent are the laws for civilian gun possession? Is armed crime a problem addressed by further tightening the screws on honest gun licensees?

I live in Barbados, ex-British protectorate, 3rd oldest house of assembly in the world (1639). All guns need to be licensed, licenses granted by Com of Police. I am a dealer/collector. No crime to speak of, just petty shite and domestic violence - nothing particularly well organised. There is only one kind of gun license which includes the right to carry concealed, no restriction on use to speak of. No 'need' for self-defense guns really but just about the cheapest insurance you can buy. Plenty of shooting clubs including UK NRA 1,000yds, skeet, trap, sporting clays, UIT rifle, UIT pistol, service pistol, IPSC pistol and a few private clubs. Club members can buy tax-free equipment. The shooting sports are well-supported except the fact that you cannot license a gun until you are 25. This doesn't stop club shooters from training, they just leave the gun with someone else or the club.
