Case Neck stuck on Expander

Anyone ever have this happen to them?

I've reloaded my 7 Rum Cases 2 times and now resizing for the 3rd reload and man is it tight pulling the expander through the neck.

Lets just say without using all my force, I can't pull my case from my resizing die.

Any solutions to this problem??

PETEY

DID YA FORGET THE INSIDE NECK LUBE? THE NECKS COULD ALSO BE TO THICK REQUIREING INSIDE REAMING. IF YOU CAN'T SLIP A BULLET INTO THE CASE BEFORE YOU RESIZE YOU REALLY NEED TO REAM THE NECKS.

JUST A FEW THOUGHTS THAT HAPPENED TO ME IN THE PAST.

Kind of strange if the first 2 reloadings were fine. Did you change any die setting after the second reloading? May be something there?

All your force needed at the beginning of the down (case) stroke or at the end?

During case prep, chuck up a nylon brush and give the inside of the neck a good brushing. Shouldn't need any lube then. I hate lube on the neck as over a long shelf live it will get down into the powder.

Be careful that the expander ball is far enough down that it isn't too close to the neck and causing a bind as the case is pulled down. This is highly improbable if it is decapping ok.....

Don't lower the expander too far as it may touch the base and cause other grief.

Thick necks wouldn't cause the problem, even if the necks were twice as thick as normal.

Also if after firing you can't insert a bullet into the case mouth, trimming will be necessary. Though I doubt that the 7 rum would grow that much is so few rounds.

Other than that, you may wish to move up to at least a 375 H&H, that way you may be able to "harvest" something.

Let us know whatcha find out.

Petey,
I never have that probley because I only neck size and I dip my csae mouthes in a can of number 12 shot and mica. With the 7mm neck sizeing may or may not work well, but Mid-Way, and probly several others, sell an inside neck luber which is just a cal. brush which wipes some mica on the inside of the case neck. Mica won`t ruin your powder eather.

I typically swap the neck with a nylon brush, but now that I'm thinking about it I might have missed this one. (Quite possible I missed one )

I ended up just scoring the neck of the case with a hacksaw and pulling the extractor out and scrappin the case.

Going down to deprime was a snap, it was the pulling out part where she stuck.

Must be that stinking Retumbo carboning up my necks or reloader error????.... nah, it must be the first option

Roy,

I feel like I'm shooting a rimfire once I look at my targets. I'm so used to seeing those .33 caliber holes on paper. I have a couple groundhogs across the road around the 300 yard mark that are about to see what a .284 can do. So you never did name the contest rules.

Petey, you might look into a replacement expander ball. I think Hornady makes 'em in carbide to fit RCBS dies.

You might also want to polish your existing expander. Chuck in in a drill and spin it in a pad of cloth with Flitz or JB paste.

Actually I'm shooting those 162gr A-Max's. The BC is better than that of any MatchKing, around .625 or better

I haven't really got a chance to see how far she'll stretch at the LR bench.

I do have some 168 MK that I can try but I'm wondering if I should even bother since it's shooting pretty darn good now for a stock gun.

Petey,

When my necks get dry, cause I'm too lazy to lubYe or clean I get the squeak sound and the expander ball kind of chatters through the neck. This hasn't happened for years, since I was informed of the nylon brush thing by a friend.

Your neck must have been really dry and usually one dry does not a stuck case make. Guess you're just lucky.

Also I don't think we can trust skinny''s posted groups any more. He's quite talented with photoshop.

Additionally, what contest? If yer talking of the itty bitty elk count thinger, ol spark won. I just gotta get around to sending the sling thing.

Since I got that new sweetheart (Ruger 1 in 375 H&H, my time and interests has been diverted. No need for a spotting scope with that thing.

Roy,

Your 375 against my little 7 Ultra.

...

Too bad turkey season is here. I'll probably have to concentrate on that more than groundhogs

Hmmmm, just to even things out. You shoot mine and I'll shoot yours and I promise not to pull any shots if you don't.

I neck size only for most of my calibers, but even at that I find it useful to put some case lube on a Q-tip, run it around the inside of the neck, then wipe it back out after resizing. It doesn't take long and well worth the effort. Best wishes.
