Well, I'm not Rocky, but....
I have in the past, bought collet pulled FMJ 30 cal milsurp bullets to shoot out of an M-1. The bullets are really cheap, and look fine. (147 spitzer bt's). You can buy a bullet that looks identical in every detail, in bulk from Winchester. I've shot about 250 of the pulls, and a bit more of the new Winchester bullets- same load in every other respect. From a none too accurate old beater M-1 Garand, the Winchesters outshoot the pulled bullets by about a 25% margin. Now, I'll shoot pulls if I just wanna hear a bang, but if I shoot paper, it's new bullets.

A while back, I had a batch of .308 Win brass go bad, with the necks season cracking. This was brand new bulk factory brass. Probably 20 percent of the brass had cracked necks. I pulled the bullets from the rest of the brass, salvaged the powder (W-760) and removed the primers. I then annealled all the necks of the brass that had not cracked and reloaded the ammo with the salvaged powder and primers. When I tested some to see if the pulled bullets were affecting accuracy, I saw no change in the accuracy performance of the load.
Now, I used one of those RCBS hammer type pullers. I did not like the way the collet style marked up the bullets. However, gunwriter John Wooters used the hammer style, collet style and one type of pliers to pull bullets and said he found, IIRC, no different from the hammer and collet type pullers and not much deterioration from the pliers pulled bullets. I would have to try and find the article as he did use some kind of special type pliers. I've even used those pulled bullet to shoot deer and they worked just fine. Paul B. |

I must have just missed this post before I went out of town.
No, I haven't gotten around to it just yet. But it's on my list of "round tuits" for work.
