Bullet for 7mm Ultra Mag

I purchased a 7mm Ultra Mag a couple years ago and started reloading for it. I use this gun for Deer and Antelope only. The best load I have come up with is a 150gr Swift Scirocco with 89.5 gr of H1000. This combo shoots .429 avg. groups at 100 yards. I took my Antelope last year at 445 yards, my longest shot to date. I found the Swift bullet works great but very expensive. I was thinking of going to a Hornady bonded bullet and was wondering if anybody has their reloading manual and could suggest the best bullet weight for the 7mm Ultra Mag. Thanks in advance Kodiak338.

A fond welcome to HuntChat, kodiak.

I'm looking for some data for you. The Hornady site seems to be erratic today.

I don't know what the Scirocco costs, but the Hornady 154 Interbond lists for $43 a hundred. Their 154 SST ( which admittedly might be a bit soft for that RUM) goes for about $30.

They don't show loading data on their website, nor did I find any notes about any special loading cautions for the Interbonds. So it should be safe to back off your Scirrocco data about 10% and substitute the Interbond (or SST) bullets. Exercise the usual caution as you work back up.

Thanks for the info Rocky Raab. I also thought that the SST would be a little soft. I am going to try the Interbond and see how it goes. The Scirocco's I bought were $76.00 for 100.

Ouch! I guess that's why I love my Hornet so much...$10 a hundred for bullets.
