Mexico Marlin and Tuna Huntin'!
Well....besides hoping that the Gulf area is spared a direct hit from Hurricane Rita this weekend, I'm scheduled to go out fishing off of Puerto Vallarta a week from tomorrow. I talked with the captain yesterday and he said that they have been hammering them. (Why do ya always here that the week before you arrive on a fishing trip? )
As much as I hope that Rita doesn't hit my side of the Gulf when I'm there, I'd take it if it spares the folks down South any more anguish! |

That is one nice yellow fin. It makes the ones I caught several years ago look like bait.

Great Tuna!
That fish is a dandy! I'm well aware of PV's location and am thankful that we're on the Western coast of Mexico (Pacific side) but was concerned the past week watching Tropical Storms Jova, Kenneth, and Max now well off the Pacific coast.
I have family and friends that are supposed to be connecting through Houston and Dallas on Tuesday morning. I think that Dallas looks like it might be okay but Houston looks like another story. I was reading that they have begun mandatory evacuations and that Rita could well be a cat.5 hurricane as she makes landfall Friday evening. Even with all of our sophisticated weather instruments, we won't know what path the storm will track until she does. I'll say again that I sure hope that the Gulf states are spared. |

Well...
I got back into town last week and have been rather busy but I thought that I'd stop at HC and provide an update: Overall, we didn't do too well. We caught a dozen bonita and barracuda but couldn't get the mahi-mahi to hit (I could see the blue/green flashes in the water top deck-side very frustrating1 Our Captain worked his tail off driving us all over the Pacific looking for fish and our first mate prepared us some of the best damn fish tacos that I have ever had in my life to go along with our Coronas. Even though the fishing wasn't that great, we had a great time-the weather was nice and I didn't hear my bosses voice all day! BTW- All of our family and friends made their connection just fine in Texas after Rita hit. I hit the woods for bowseason next weekend. (I promised the Mrs. one free weekend when we got back!) |

They're still catching the Big Tuna and the Tournament is scheduled for the end of the month. Did you fish at Roca Corbbentena or somewhere else?
You caught the bait for the big tuna, the bonita, I would have thought your Captain would have taken you where they catch the cow tuna.

To be honest with you, after all the running around that our Captain did, I'm not quite sure where we were fishing. He showed our party pics of the previous weeks fishing and it looked like they hammered em'.
He's a good fisherman and knows his stuff-last year when I was down in November during the tourney, he put us unto some nice marlin, sailfish, and mahis. That's fishing as they say. |

All we caught were Toro, Blue Runners and Bonita. I did have two sails pick up live BRs but they only played with them and spit. Did enjoy the trip immensely however.
