This morning i was talking my cousin into goose hunting and he was talking me into it. Its been a rough september and we didnt know where to go. Well we decided on a farm and i picked a field just randomly. well... as we were putting out decoys you could see goose prints and feathers in the dirt and so much poop we had to watch our steps. the prints were in dust, so we figured the geese were there last night. Well it didnt take long. 15 minutes in a pair ignored us, behind them a bunch of 75 came in. we could see them the second they got off the delaware. Once the first half touched down i gave the go ahead and birds came down! reloaded and more were coming a smaller group of maybe 25, they didnt really want it so when 3 landed we started shooting the flyers, crunched one and sailed one into standing corn which wasnt found, a good day all and all, do you guys think the field would be worth getting back in saturday morn considering how much we educated them?

If you do not plan on hunting those same geese all year round, I would hunt them again for sure. If it is one of your main fields, I would limit it to a hunt there about every two weeks, taking into consideration that the birds will eventually eat all the food and completely stop coming back.

Sometimes, you just have to clobber them while you have the chance. Worst case scenario, you have a bad day, but any day of hunting is better than a good day at school or work.

I have seen hundreds of geese in a field on August 31, only to have a pair come by on September 1, our opening day. One can never tell what the birds will do. We have seen hundreds of birds land in one field one day, only to land in the next field across the street when we were set up in the field they were using the day before. I have seen geese pass on cut corn to eat grass. Still cannot figure that one out.

Like a guy I know says, "If we could figure them out, we would be rich."

Check the field out and if the birds are still around...shoot 'em. They'll eat it up and leave in the early season like this. If ya get into 'em again..shoot and get out. You may get to shoot them there one more time. Snow geese however are different...wayyyy different.

as for the retriever my hunting buddy has one, a chocolate, but having a little girl and a wife at home both he and the dog are to damn domesticated! the dog most likely wont ever hunt. I dont have the time to train one right so thats that.
As for the field this weekend will probably be the last time i would hunt it all year. Right now i key in on river and farm pond birds and look for the dairy farmers who are chopping the first corn of the year. Later i can move north of home a little when the migrants come by the boat load and i can see hundreds a day without question. so i dont mind over doing the area, it was just a question of will they decoy. Another problem i had that i havent seen before was that given the wind direction the birds had to swing wide and fly over a tree line and then make a pretty fast drop to the decoys. they didnt seem to like the concept. i need to figure something out that the wind is right for them when they are locked up 300 yds out.

for the record today sucked. some dude showed up a half hour before shoot. he hunted the same field kille one. 3 of us could not call a bird in , every thing we sawwww was in V formation like it had an agenda to keep
