Deer around here are tame

Deer around me are pretty much tame. I could probably walk out there with a baseball bat and fill the freezer.

This morning, I was out with my dog Nitro and had him off the leash as I usually do.

I could see the fawn in the bushes about 40 yards away and Nitro was headed right for it. He got within 10 ft. of the fawn, and I guess he finally smelled it because he stopped in his tracks. About 2 or 3 seconds went by before the fawn lifted its head from the bush it was eating and saw Nitro. At that point, it took off faster than I have ever seen a deer hop. That speed was amazing.

Earlier in the week, my cousin killed a doe with a pellet gun out of his dining room window. The doe was eating his bushes and he decided to shoot it in the hindquarters to "scare" it away. It ran across the street and dropped dead.

And then there is me. I drive at least 30 minutes to shoot them with a .300 Win. What I should do is grab the bow and sit out on the deck to get some venison.

At least DNR is allowing managed hunts over at my cousin's place. I will be able to take 4 deer out of there this year.
