hi
have anybody tried this bullet in 30 cal and 165 gr or 180 grain on big game. what is your opinion?

180 gr Scciroco launched at 2840 fps muzzle velocity out of my 30-06

Animal was a mature mule deer. He was quartering towards me ~300 yards away. I hit him in the centre of his chest and the bullet was recovered under the skin of the off-side rear quarter. The bullet retained ~65% of it's weight. It is the only Scciroco I have recovered. After this deer I shot two more broadside through the ribs and have to say I am pleased with the bullet.

I use Remington Premium 180gr Scirocco in my 300 Ultra and they are devastating. I have taken 3 Mule deer 2 good 4 points 22" & 24" and a small 3 point all were one shot.

One was a bad placed shot. The deer was running almost straight away. I thought it was already hit once by my hunting partner. I shot hitting it in the right rear quarter the bullet shattered the hip joint. Left a 3" round entry wound!!! from hitting that hip bone. Crossed thru the deer broke two ribs on the opposite side and them broke the left shoulder lodging under the skin on the outside shoulder. I weighed it after and I think it still weighed about 145-155grs, great weight retension for how much bone it broke.When i got too it I thought I had missed because I thought that hole was an exit, but it was the wrong angle for my companion to have hit it. After skinning the animal that was the only bullet and only hole. I was the only one to hit it. My companion shoots a 270 so it was my bullet.

I really like how they perform and my gun shoots them very well.

Had the 180gr refuse to open out of a .300 win mag in a whitetail. The yardage was 410 so velocity was down. Pinpricked him and he barely bled.

Yep. 40 yards in the snow and he piled up. No blood trail.

actualy to take one shot at 410 and pile up in 40yds sounds pretty good to me.

I like a bit more expansion out that deep. It was a shoulder shot, just behind the bone. No blood trail bothers me too. 5" back and I htink I would have had to search a quarter mile for him. With CT Ballistic Tips they drop like a sack of wet sand on a hit like that.

I hit one of my deer at 380 yards head on thru the chest found the bullet back near his "man parts" while I was cleaning him. It had fully expanded. That is strange that yours did not open up. The velocity difference should not have made that big of a difference? My bullet did go thru more soft tissue that may have helped.

Did you recover the bullet? Did it have and exit? you say a "pin prick" I am curious what you mean

I had a similar problem with Nosler Partitions, I had an elk stand up at 250 yards. Myself and my 2 brothers all shot several rounds. All shooting 7 mags with the same Federal premium ammo with partitions. It ran over 200 yards before a last shot that hit it in the back of the head. After skinning we found 7 shots thru the front shoulder 2 thru both shoulder bones none had expanded. Same exact size exit as entry. I know elk are tough but that was a joke. We all switched ammo after that. That goes against the grain since most people have high praise of the partition but I still wont shoot them.

I've had this lack of consistency with a lot of the "premium" bullets. The Swift didn't exit and had little to no expansion. Deformation would be a better term. The bullet was lodged in the far shoulder.

As for the Partitions, my experience is just the opposite. I don't trust them on elk, because I'll have one occasionally grenade on a whitetail out of my 7STW. Below is a pretty graphic link of a 160gr Partition shot on a doe. It was too close for STW velocity.

I read a lot about differing bullets from the gun rags, but actual performance in the field varies. To make matters more complicated the compaines change bullet designs under the same names. The new Ballistic Tips are a lot harder than they used to be and don't vaporize near as easily. I can push the 140gr CT Ballistic Tips through deer at 3400fps and a lot of bullets can't handle that.

i have no clue what CT is. but i have guess only because i know alittle about bullets.

my guess is that the CT is nothing more than a nosler balistic tip loaded from winchesters ammunition plant with a black coating of whatever miracle formula.

i happen to know that the combined technoligies bullet is just nosler bt with a hyped up name.


i also know i like how nolser bts perfrom and ar what i load in my 2506 for deer hunnting aswell as my 270.

though mine arent coated so they may not be as good.

i also have had mixed bag of results on bigame with partitions and the 270.

i find no reason to use them when remington loads theyre core lockts and i load bts.

Correct. The CT is the Combined Technolgy and it's the standard Ballistic Tip...just coated.

As for that quote, I'm not sure what you mean. I'm just quoting my real world experience with my rifles which can differ greatly from another rifle and/or ammunition.

Still, I find it useful to know that you really need to find out for yourself what happens out of your rifle and not take a whole lot of stock on what it says on the ammo box........

That pic of the doe looks alot like the entry my 300RUM made on my buck. I thought the bullet would have blown apart but it didnt. Nasty how a bullet can blow a hole that big going in. Did you recover the bullet from the doe? or did it blow apart.

I had a 140gr out of my 7mm hit a deer at about 15 yards and it hit the shoulder bone. The entry wasnt real big but the bullet literaly exploded. I found little tiny pieces all thru the meat while butchering. It didnt even come close to a pass thru small fragments stuck in the rib meat on other side.

All that was left were fragments. The jacket separated and even the rear core did not retain integrity.

i realized that maybe 10% of people out there would even know what the CT was. i didnt untill i thout about it long and hard.

there is nothing wrong with hypeing them up or anything. i just wanted people to know what they are.

i actualy have a few boxes of 270win CXP2 stuff. i dont see were it says CT anywhere on the box they just call it the balistic silvertip(nolser balistic tip) it also says its for light thinned skin game. mule deer and smaller id say.
