Alive and well down in Miami, Post Wilma

Cat three they say, around my place Sunday night. No damage at all to the casa.
No power since though. Going on 5 days now. I still have ice, but planned my perishable food supply to run out as the ice did.
I still have over a month of untouched canned goods.
We are rich with propane cylinders, Coleman Gas, Lamp Oil, and batteries.
I could fire up the generator anytime I need it. So far, we are just doing without.
Weather has been beautiful
Making it to work now, but have not bought gas yet. I still have 3/4 tank in the Pontiac, and the Pick Up is full. Still have my emergency cans full in the garage.

I just don't understand those folks that run out of everything the first day

On the news the other night, I saw the lines at the gas station and the ice give away station down in Florida. Man, that was pathetic. I agree with Jeb Bush, the blame should not be thrown on the government every time something like this happens. People had plenty of time to prepare. If I am not mistaken, they had over a week.

I am willing to bet that the people who did not prepare for this are the people living pay check to pay check that cannot afford to pay for ice, gas cans, or additional food ahead of time. My wife works with a woman that is pretty much like this. One day, this lady's husband called to say that he ate everything in the fridge and that she had to buy more food for dinner. This lady started crying on the phone and my wife overheard her tell her husband that there was no money left to buy food. Mind you, this guy is rarely ever employed, drives a Ram 1500 pickup, and buys Playstation 2 games. On top of all that, they couldn't afford their mortgage payment so they sold their house, which they initially bought with a downpayment from a parent, and they received a decent gain because of the market. So, they decide to move closer to the wife's work so she doesn't have to spend as much on gas, but the rent payment is $600 more than there mortgage was. Does that make any sense.

I could continue going on and on about people like this because I have plenty of clients like this and all the secretaries at the last firm I worked at were exactly like this.

I firmly believe, that if all the wealth in the world were divided equally and capitalism prevailed thereafter, the rich would be rich again and the poor would be poor again. Look at these lottery winners that spend everything they win. Then there is the friend of my dad that won the lottery several years ago. He has a house here in Maryland and one in Italy and spends 6 months here and 6 months there. He also has 2 other houses that he rents out here along with a deli that he owns and he is always looking to make a buck.
