New SP10
About a month ago I purchased a new Sp10 made by Remy. I also bought several 10 ga. shells from a friend.(about 16 boxes assorted). When I fired the gun I only shot it single shot for 6 rounds and it seemed that it didn't bolt back up all the way. I tought it was maybe tight and just needed shooting(my Benny was that way at first till it was shot a few times).Any way come duck season I was in the blind with a 11lb $900 plus single shot. It has since been sent to Remington for repairs or replacement. Has anyone else had that problem? I think the patent was purchased from Ithaca by Remy and the action seems very beefy and I really was looking forward to using this shotgun. Any info appreciated. Crowcommander

I've got an Ithica Mag 10. My dad & I chipped in and bought it in 1977 when I was 12 years old. I've shot many geese with it but it is also the best crow gun I can think of. I had to lift weights for two years before I could handle it well.
Yes, I've had trouble too. I bought a reloader and had even more trouble. If the loads weren't heavy enough it wouldn't cycle, if they were too heavy the action would stay open. I also had a lot of trouble with the trigger mechanism. I gave up on reloads entirely and found factory ammo that it likes. I have to keep mine clean, very clean or I have trouble. I guess I don't know what to tell you, but I do know of others who have put thousands of rounds through theirs. Mine doesn't see much use anymore, but I'll never get rid of it.

I was thinking about getting the SP10 a couple of years ago, but decided against it based upon the reliability issues that I had heard about it. With my luck, I would end up getting a lemon. I find it somewhat surprising that more manufacturers don't make 10 ga. shotguns. I guess they decided against it since it is such a niche shotgun (i.e., mostly waterfowling) and most people will buy the 12 ga. if they can only afford a single gun.

Have an Auto-10 myself,, like the other poster as longas I use full power loads no problem.
If I was to buy a new 10ga it would be the Browning Gold Auto, or its Pump gun

Thanks Guys for the input. Called Remy yesterday and they said new barrel was defective. Customer Service said she was sending a new barrel and I should get it probably before got my receiver back. I asked her what was going to happen when I put them together and it still wouldn't cycle. Asked for a new gun to no avail. She finally conceded to getting her gunsmith to assemble the gun and test fire it to see if it would cycle and next day airing it to me. I personnally think they should get out the car racing business start making quality firearms. Thanks Crowcommander
