Winter Camping - wish me luck

I've done my share of camping since I was a kid, I take my wife & kids camping a lot and I've camped out on countless fishing trips, hunting trips and just for the heck of it. I'm a little nearvous on this one though. Along with two other adults, I'm taking 15 cub scouts & boy scouts winter camping for three days over this weekend.

Now, I'm a practical camper, not a scout. I use firestarters and as many matches as it takes to build a fire. I use a real tent to sleep in, not a piece of tarp over a dugout in the snow. I use a coleman stove and cook up a good meal, I don't cook over fire if I can help it. I've camped during the winter in Minnesota before in much colder weather, but not with 15 kids. I put the older boy scouts in charge of everything but driving. We'll see how it goes.

You will have a blast. Years back we took scouts on winter trips camping and we had more darn fun then a barrel of monkeys.

Nulle, you were right. Made it back yesterday afternoon with all the kids we left with. A few bumps & bruises but all OK. We improvised a lot, made do with what we had and overall everyone had a great time. I didn't get to be a scout when I was young and I don't know a lot about the whole "Scouting" system but there are a couple other parents that take care of the paperwork, I'm the practical guy that can help the kids do whatever is on the schedule. It made me feel 14 again. This is a small town and I know all the kids and have had most of them in my firearms safety classes.

The next outing is going to be at a campground on a lake as soon as school is out for some fishing.

Nice rack...How many points? How acquired?

You should get listed with the mentoring programs that a number of organizations are fostering and promoting...maybe win some stuff for your Scout troop...
