Volquartsen rifles

I think I have found my next rimfire rifle after I get my AR-15, AR-10, and 25-06. I'll be getting a Volquartsen Snake .17 HMR. That gun looks awesome and after looking at their website for additional parts for my 10/22, it seems as though buying the entire gun will cost me less than doing it piece meal.

Plus, their customer service is really good. I sent them an e-mail yesterday (i.e, Sunday) about my misfire problem and I had a response by this morning (i.e., Monday). Of course, I have no idea what they were talking about, so that is going to be my next post.

10 years ago, I would never have dreamt about buying a rimfire for $1,000, but the more I think about it, I have close to that in my 10/22 right now. Original gun $200, Volquartsen TG2000 trigger group $200, Butler Creek bull barrel that shot poorly $100, Green Mountain Barrel $100, Hogue stock $80. That is almost $700 and the Volquartsen rifles come with the fluted barrel and the really nice receiver. Again, 10 years ago I would never have dreamt about paying that for a rimfire, but 10 years ago I had my eyes set on a bunch of clay shooting shotguns that cost $3K. Now, I have all the shotguns I need, plus some extras, and the only other one I want is in the $10K category and will not be purchased for many years unless I win the lottery. I have bolt rifles in .220 Swift, .270 Win, .30-06, and .300 Win Mag. After the AR's and the .25-06, I am going to start running out of reasonable calibers to purchase, so why not get a Volquartsen rimfire. The only other thing rifle I want is a Sako TRG 42 rifle in .338 Lapua Mag. and maybe something in .416 Rigby or .458 Win, but I hate heavy recoil, as does my back.

The rimfires are fun to shoot for hours on end and they will be great once I have kids.

My dad has a Belgium A5, Win 1300, and a 1960's Win 101, that I will probably eventually end up with. I love the 101, but don't really care for the A5 or the 1300.

Oh yeah, forgot about a Browning Citori that I have, but I prefer to use that gun as an oar for the boat.

I look at some of the new shotguns and almost want to buy them until I sit down and try to figure out why I need them. Two in particular that I have been looking at are the Benelli Super Sport II and the Benelli Cordoba, and they are pretty similar to one another. I think to myself that the Super Sport II would be nice for shooting sporting clays and the Cordoba will be nice for dove hunting. Then, the voice of reason tells me that I am shooting in the high 40's with the 391 Teknys Gold and I usually get my limit of doves with a box of shells with the SBE, 3901, and occassionally with the Teknys, so why do I need the Super Sport II or the Cordoba. Almost bought the new SBEII because of its reduced recoil, but then the voice of reason chimed in with, I already have an SBE with a recoil reducer in the stock, and another for the forearm when I use the slug barrel, and yes it makes the gun a little heavier, but it isn't my upland gun (i.e., I don't carry it much while walking). So, I scratched that purchase.

Now, I am dying to buy an AR15 and an AR10, and I am getting pretty close to ordering them (i.e., I have made up my mind on what I want and the voice of reason hasn't kicked in yet). The only other shotgun I want is the Beretta S06 with the gold engraved mallard, but that thing costs as much as a car and I am not willing to part with that kind of money for a gun right now, especially when I do not plan on shooting it much, if at all. To me, that gun is like artwork. You can look, but don't touch.

I like most of VQ's gear.....not fond of the triggers though.....not quite as good as they should be for the money you spend.....

Captain, you know I love your 10/22. It looks almost exactly like mine, but I don't have the gold plating or the fluted Green Mountain barrel. Another difference is that I have the Volquartsen silver TG2000 trigger assemby, and I will agree with you that their triggers leave something to be desired. Nothing like my Timney trigger in my Ruger 77MKII.

I know its not always appropriate to listen to the voice of reason. After seeing a pic of Captain's gun again, I am thinking about getting my receiver chrome plated, or if the wife will not kill me, gold plated. Once I have all the guns I can possibly justify, I'll still be buying more. I like the one gun a year rule, and I try to stick to it. Plus, I might start upgrading later on. Trade in the Ruger MKII77's for Sako's, etc.

I was originally going to go with a nice copper...but the guy talked me out of it as well...everyone knows what happens to copper after a few years

My next choice after gold was a black chrome

Black chrome might look really good. The current stainless steel receiver is a little dull compared to the Green Mountain barrel.

One other point of difference is that I use Burris Signature rings and a Burris Fullfield 3-9x scope on my gun. Might upgrade it to a 3-12x though because it is kind of hard to shoot small paper targets without being able to see them very clearly.

Rings is a personal choice any of the top brands will work equally well I just really liked the fit and looks of the Leupolds
