22khornet or 223

firstly its not about power or fps,i love the hornet and most probably will get one,rechamber it to k hornet i have dies powder over a thousand cases .i can load reduced loads down to under 1000 fps and any where up to 3000fps using i.5 gn with 22lr projectiles and dacron filler to 12.5 gns for max loads (we don't have lil gun down here) how cheap is that.the k hornet may improve on that a little if it shoots as flat as 17 hmr and hits harder at any range thats all i need.200 yards is all i need i can walk the other 30 - 50 yards that a 222 or 223 might have ,if hit right a rabbit or fox will not know the diferance.if i need more range or power my 6.5 sweed can take over. i realy am interested in this new savage single shot with flash new trigger set up.i know alot of people love there 223's or 222's(i have a 222 rimmed in a h&r topper)but to me they boom to much and chew more powder,ok for somebody who doesn't reload they may be cheaper to feed but i reload. well i hpoe to here some other peoples opinions see ya's

Well deadkelly you'll get no complaints from me, sounds like you pretty much already made your mind up to get a K-Hornet. I couldn't agree with you more. The only thing I might add, but since you already got the dies, get a plain Hornet and a hot .22 like the Swift. Then depending on where you're hunting you got the closer range or longer range nailed by taking one or the other. Could be certain times of year you can't shoot past 150 but other times not a problem out as far as you can see. I don't have a K-Hornet, but wouldn't mind having one of them too, Waidmannsheil, Dom.

thanks for the reply ,i have a old savage 340 c but it only shoots ok , in stead of spending money on it i'll get a new savage when they come out over here ,chamber the new one to k hornet get a nice scope.i'll let my mates with super dooper magnums, try and belt those little things way out yonder,iam just a good ol boy who happy just to be out shooting.i like hearing there excuses any way lol see ya mate.

The beauty of the K-Hornet is its ability to also fire 22-Hornet, which may be purchased as factory ammo or handloaded. Once the 22-Hornet has been fired in your K-Hornet barrel, it becomes fireformed K-Hornet brass. Given that you reload, you will have both options (K-Hornet is not available as factory loads). As far as which is better - the K-Hornet or the 223 - up to about 150 yards they are comparable in accuracy, though you may find the K-Hornet cheaper to reload. Beyond 150 yards I have to give the advantage to the 223 which has considerably more velocity. Everybody has a 223, how many of us are proud owners of a K-Hornet?

I`ve never had a K-Hornet, but I did have a Savage 340 in .22 Hornet. Some days it was a real tack driver and others it did group, but patterened like a shotgun. It`s one of the guns I lost in a fire and needless to say not the one I miss most. The Hornet is a great little round and one that blowing out the shoulder will get you a real gain that you can see in the field. I think you`ll be happy with the Savage. I rember when they made crap for guns. Then they started building guns that would shoot good, but after you did all the fit and finish the factroy didn`t do. Today they are findly doing the fit and finish and from what I`m hearing are one of the better out of the box shooters. Since I don`t buy new guns I have to relay on what I hear and what I see from friends guns I help setup.
Now if you didn`t have the K dies already, I might recomand the the .17-K Hornet. I have one of them and push a 19 gn. bullet at 3,600 fps. Point blank range abt. 290 yrds. with 10.4 gn. of H-4227. A sharper crack than the .22 Hornet, but not any louder.
