.17 or .22 on turkeys
i was wondering some of your opinions. If you were able to take a turkey with either a .22 or a .17 which one would you pick and where would you aim besides the head out to about 80 yards?

Well, I'll assume that using anything besides a shotgun is legal (it is NOT in many places).
Of the two, I'd not use anything smaller than a .22 Magnum. No .17 rimfire at all, and not even a standard .22LR. Turkeys are big, tough birds and hard to put down for good. The only shot I'd take would be through the wing butts (shoulder). The head is not only very small, but they duck them around a LOT.

I'll go one step farther, when I do use a 22 mag its with 50 gr hp's only, they work, haven't tried the new stuff from the last couple years, but the fed 50 gr's do ok.

I would not even try it. Turkeys are hard to kill, and the vital spots make small targets. I used to hunt with a .222, but that has a LOT more 'umph' than any rimfire. As was mentioned, the prefered shot was through the upper wing, into the heart/ lung area. I would not attempt a head shot.
