Hi All,

Well here is the Cherokee Seems I should have checked better as it does not have all the test certificates so he lied and I am getting a second opinion of the legality of it's current test certificate as I found a small rust hole in the nearside (left) sill whilst washing it. They claim it's not an MOT failure but I think it is and so does an MOT tester I goit to look at it. So I will phone the garage I use for our tests and get them to take a look. Also I discovered yesterday that the Air Cleaner is missing and so is the battery clamp. The unrestrained battery is also a failure on the test I think you will find.







Now it starts on the button and drives fine however i do have this strange noise it sounds like it from the rear and it's like rubber which is rubbing against something and only happens once it's warm. Driving slowly it really shows up I have put my hands on the rear brake drums after a 40 mile drive and they are cool as is the axle tubes. The diff is warm and I checked hte oil level in it and it's OK. The transfer box is too hot to put your hand on as is the auto box which I would assume is normal?.

Now the car has been standing for some time and the leaf springs have a coating of surface rust as does the exhaust. The plan is to brush off the loose rust on the exhaust and paint it with exhaust paint to protect it some. I sprayed the springs and rubbers with WD40 but have not been out in the car since as I wonder if their dry and causing the squeaking groaning noise but what puzzles me is that if I bounce on the springs it's quiet Any thoughts?

Now, the American version looks much better. LOL For a second there, I thought you bought a car without a steering wheel.

Ahhh well the steering wheel is on the right side (pun intended ) you see it was explained to me like this. As most people are actually right handed the rason fro driving on the left with the driver on the right is to keep the whip (in the right hand ) away from the people walking on the side of the road. This logical idea was changed by of all people Napoleon who hated the English so much everywhere he got influence or control he ordered or persuaded them to change to driving on the right. This of course applied to organised societies really as others with no real organisation had no thoughts of traffic control or flow and the drivers just go where and how they please . The position of the Selec-trac lever shows it was designed for being a LHD as it's the wrong side of the trans tunnel and box to make it easy to use.


This last week and a bit has seen some miles covered, in fact I have driven 896 miles since I picked up te Jeep. Careful miles that is and I am trying to check it's fuel consumption, estimates so far are about 25mpg, Oh please remember that I am working with Imperial gallons (4.54 litres) and rarely let the tacho climb up to 2000rpm let alone over it it's only in Cruise that it goes over when it kicks down on a couple of hills.

The noise from the rear is the clutches in the Ltd slip diff (DANA 35 with ABS), the diff was re-built just over 20,000 miles ago but I do not know whether they added the special friction mod additive that these diffs require. Yesterday did a 150 mile round trip to pick Mother up from her brothers where I had dropped her on on Saturday and when hot the diff groans and grabs in turns but quietens down on the straight. So the plan is to get some additive and drain the oil from the diff replace it with new and the additive and see if it helps any. Also need to get an air cleaner element as the cheapskates removed it rather than replace it Two front tyres are needed very soon.

I also plan on a oil and filter change, getting the transmission fluid changed and the filter in the AW4 box changed or cleaned and draining and replacing the fluid in the transfer box. The onto new plugs and possibly leads, cap and whatever else it might need. The last service reciept I have is for 71455 miles but that was three years ago and I need a stereo as well as it's missing as is the CD changer The rear shoes are fine but have not checked the front pads yet although they were replaced at that service so?
