Wasn't gonna spend any money to see the movie, but they had it on the Discovery Channel and I found myself watching it. After sorting through the amazement at someone ignorant enough to believe he was safe from attacks when he was within several yards of some of the largest carnivores on the planet, I am sure of one thing: he had completely lost his respect and fear of these animals. The only big surprise here is that it took over a decade for one of these wild animals to react poorly to close human contact.
gd One more thing: it is clear that he was disassociated with humanity, and probably chose to do this rather than face his problems. That he didn't fully grasp the precarious balance of his existance was painfully evident.

I have a copy of that film, and this guy was out of touch with reality, plain, and simple! I have hunted around these bears for 25 yrs on a yearly basis, and they demad distance, and respect! The only tragedy is the bear didn't get some of the PETA money mongers, rather than the girl, who was smarter than Tim, and was truly afraid of these bear! Tim was a fine example of the Darwin effect, usless animals who cannot cope, are naturally removed! I have to agree with one of the writers who wrote: "we need to increase the population of these bears, in places like the Berkley campus!"

I've hunted black bear for the past 20 odd years, and I still have repect for them, I've had some real hair raising experiences, but I respect them, because pound for pound they they make the worlds best wrestlers and boxers look like whimps.
The old saying" Sometimes you get the bear and sometimes the bear gets you" holds true. It was only a matter of time before he turned into a pile of bear crap, probably the bear had to lick his @%% to get the taste out of his mouth. poor bear ! I watch it the first time it appeared on T.V. and the only thing I can think of was an idiot wanting to commit suicide. |

If Only he'd gotten the part on cheers
The guy had problems and probably deserves some sympathy, but I have none for him.He was trying to protect the bears? From what? Poachers maybe? And him with no firearms...
I think he was trying to get some attention.I'll give him credit for doing the work required to survive in the wilderness. However, his behavior negated all that hard work.In conclusion: Tim Treadwell=PWNED!!111 ![]() |
