Schmidt-Rueben K-11

I have both a K-31, and a K-11 S-R. The K-31 has been shot quite a bit, but the K-11 had not been firede by me yet. Since I was planning to shoot this rifle in a Wild Bunch match later this month, it seemed only prudent to check out what it likes for lunch!!
Wild Bunch is a lead bullet match, so I selected my favorite cast 30 Cal bullet. That is the LBT 170-310-LCFN, a flat point spitzer design, linotype, gas checked, lubed with my standard Javelina 60/40, and sized .310".
I keep a couple dozen different powders on hand for test purposes. Selecting 6 that would probably shoot well in this cartridge, I "guesstimated" charges that would produce a velocity of about 1500 to 1600 FPS, loaded up a batch and headed for the range this morning. The weather was good, flat lighting, now wind and about 70°F.
Results looked like this at 50 yards range:

Now I shall load the better 3 powders and check them out at 100 yards next week. To much work on the bench to go back out this week!

The SR M1911 Karabiner is a fine arm. I have shot lots of cast bullets out of mine. I like the Lyman #311467 (about 173 grains) the best. My powders and charges are as follows:

14 grains Unique
11 grains of 700X
19 grains of 2400.

In three of my Karbines, the 14 grains of Unique and the 311467 loaded to 76mm overall length shoots to point of aim at 100 yards with the battle sight (rear sight at lowest setting) and it prints +2.5 inches at 50 yards. On a B-8 target at 50 yards, that would be in the X-ring. Best of luck.

I tried the 2400 powder in this rifle ( 18.5 grs as I recall ), and it shot OK. I'm just not a fan of small charges of fast powders. I generally get better results with fast to medium burn rifle powders.
My K-31 shoots very well with IMR/H-4198 and the same bullet. That load did not do as well in the K-11 as some others.
The Lyman 311467 is a good target bullet. Unfortunately I think Lyman no longer catalogs it. I use to shoot that bullet in 30-06's, until I loaned the mould to a friend. Havent seen the mould or him for about 30 years, so guess I can write it off!

Well, we had the WB match Saturday last. The weather was good and we had a great time. I shot the K-11 Schmidt-Rueben, using 170 gr GC bullets cast in linotype, over 25 grs of 4895.
The longest rifle range was 160 yds. That target was one of the BPCR plates, and must have been 2 foot square! Wasn't a problem to hit.
We had a collection of Mausers, Springfields, Lee's, a Rem 8, Win 07 and a couple W94's. The handguns covered the 1911, Luger, Mauser, Webley, Colt SAA ( bad news on the reload ) and Colt new service.
Shot my Ross 05 last time, the K-11 this match, so will have to get out the Steyr 88 or 95 for the next bash! After that I'll go back to turn bolts.
