I was wondering if anyone else here were musicians or simply would like to discuss music. Music is my life and its a subject rarely touched here it seems.
Style and skill doesn't matter, I want to hear about it all. It doesn't matter if you're a n00b who only knows how to strum three chords or if you've got your own recording studio. Lets talk about music! I myself have been playing guitar and bass for 10 years and drums for 3 years. I play shared rhythm and lead guitar for a local hardcore metal band Affliction Before Dissolution as well as a yet unnamed side project with a couple friends. I need to know if anyone else shares the same passion for music that I do.

Well Wahnie, I belong to the n00b group. Can't read a single note. Does it count if I like to listen to C&W?
![]() But, I can make some noise on a hunting horn, basically a trumpet without valves . . . Normally we play 5 notes, I don't even know what they are, cause I always ask "Start on 3?" I've got the most in demand 20 tunes memorized, just need to know which 'note' to start on. ![]() And I must say, as a group we do allright!! Waidmannsheil, Dom. ![]() |

Musician??
Well in my case not hardly..although I have played the guitar, mandolin, banjo and the violin(badly) in the past. even made drinkin money doing it but never had the time to pursue it. Grew up listening to Rock and Roll in the 50's cause that is what my mother listened to. Sadly good music is no more. Even country music (which was part of the basis of R&R) is pretty bad now days. Rap isn't really music(although there is some good poetry and rhyming in some) and most of the heavy metal seems to be mostly an exercise in making noise and putting on a bad show. Some of the milder metal has some good basic music enhanced by the abilities of the musicians who play it. Looking back I can say I didn't particularly care for the music he played..but I surely admired the way Hendrix did what he did. Didn't care much for her lifestyle but you just had to admit ol Janis Joplin knew how to make a fair song sound great!. What is it that seems to make some of the best musicians(and others) have a death wish or whatever it is? Neat question Wahnie. And by the way. Not trashing your music. Mostly we don't care for what we don't understand. I actually like a lot of classical music.but some is just not worth listening to for me! That IS where the basis for all music comes from though

I own two harmonicas, named Dumb and Dumber. One of them knows only two songs, and the other one can't even play those right.

I have played a bit in the past. In High school I won a full scholarship to a university to play the trumpet. I didn't go because I was sick of playing the trumpet. Why? Cause I can't hardly sing along and play the trumpet at the same time.
I am trying to learn to play the mandolin. My wife is trying to learn to play the guitar. Her and my brother both know a little about playing the fiddle. I try to play the harmonica but it seems mine took lessons from Rocky's second one and didn't listen all that well. I tried the fiddle, but its hard to play a tune on just one string. My wife asked my why I play it on just one string. I told her it was because we just had one bow. Anyway other than beatin on a drumb, playin the jews harp, or playin a washboard or the spoons thats about all I know. Come to think of it I need ta get me a new washboard to play. My great grandfather taught me to play that as a kid. When I was a kid my great grandfather and scores of relatives would get together under the big oak tree in the front yard and play music just about every day. GoodOlBoy

Harmonica
I had a nice Harmoinica that I could play pretty badly. Gave it to a guy back in Md before I left and the sucker has learned to play it and leaves me songs on the answering machine. Really aggravating. He can play it better than I ever could and he did it in less than a year. I had it for 20 yrs. Sheesh! He does have a bit of musical ability though. Played the big organ in the National Cathedral a time or two!

I sing and have played the piano and violin, though neither particularly well.
I'm a much better singer than I ever was an instrumentalist. Although my voice is somewhat out of shape now, as I'm not singing regularly anymore. Guess I need to get back into doing that. GSG |

It seems that country is probably favored around here. I've got the utmost respect for some of those country/bluegrass finger pickers. They can put any shred lick Chris or I can come up with to shame. Plain and simple. Skeet, I've just recently gotten into harmonica. My parents bought me one for Christmas this past year and I've had lots of fun, but I have yet to really apply myself that much as most of my focus has been with playing guitar and vocals with my band. I'd love to incorporate it with our current style. I think it would definitely add to it. Banjo is another that I'd love to pick up. Anywho, its been a rather long night. I should get some sleep. Keep the posts coming you guys. Lets get this forum moving!
