WY antelope ?

Looks like I'll be making a driving trip to Cody in mid-October for work. Might as well make the most of it.

What are the best areas, and best chances to draw an outstater general 'lopey tag in that general area ?

Anyone have a guide to recommend in that area should I decide to go that route ?

thanks

Sorry it has taken so long to answer this. I was hoping that someone else might be able to help you out on this. I'm not sure where you want to hunt or how much you want to travel. I know nothing about the area over around Cody if that's where you are planning to hunt. I do know that the two best areas used to be the Red Desert and the areas south of Gillette. Red Desert for quality animals and South Gillette for quantity of animals. Don't know if that is still true or not. I do know that area 23 still sells more licenses than just about all others. Not much public land though. There is some walk-in land west of Gillette that holds Antelope and BLM land north and east of Gillette that has antelope, but the numbers are way down, but not as bad as three or four years ago. They seem to be making a come back there. Douglas and areas around Casper also seem to be good Antelope hot spots. I've never hunted down there so don't have any contacts for you. I can tell you this, if you want a Antelope and are not real picky about the size of animal, just get you a map from the BLM for public land and you will find Antelope anywhere from 10 to 14 inch range on just about all of it. The bigger the horns the harder they are to find, but there are usually a few. Luck to you and if there is anything I can do to help let me know.

thanks !

one of the few outfitters I did hear back from (the outdoor pursuit) is in Area 22-1 (near Buffalo) Ideally I'd like to hunt an area that is not too far off the path back to MI.

Guess I'm spoiled from having over 4k of private land available to hunt on in MT. LOL

Anyway....I'm not looking for a record set of cutters (not that I'd let one pass by tho) just looking for a chance to fill the freezer a bit

I'm not sure where that Public land is at, but I think that it may be in area 22. Actually I think it may be a portion in area 22 and area 23 now that I think about it. There are Antelope there and unless you have a ton of other hunters a head of you I think you should be is good shape. I wish you luck.

Good for you. Bring a big cooler filled with ice with you when you're hunting and skin them out right on the spot. Keep those quarters on ice and you'll have some fine eating. I'm grilling some Wyoming antelope burgers tonight.
