Anyone making their own bullet/patch lube?

A few years ago an old Hungarian friend made some pretty good lube and he gave me some and the formula.

It is a pound of crisco, a pound of beeswax and a stick of Aalox lube melted together and allowed to cool in old margarine tubs. The stuff works good and has a pleasant aroma.

Got it. I haven't run low on Bore Butter, but I heard Thompsons doesn't smell like Ben Gay anymore so I'm kinda put out. I liked that smell and the product seemed to work, at least for me it did.

Have you ever did any business with RMC Sports? I have been looking for long range sights for my Hawken CVA. They have those plastic thingies you put over caps to keep them on the hammer and they also waterproof to a certain extent.

Do you have any recommendations for Tang sights for my rifle?

Once again it's a CVA 50cal St. louis Hawken '95 model. Any help would be appreciated.

Best wishes, Bill

Billy D,

I have no experience with tang sights on muzzleloaders. I get by with the "issue" sights on my MLs. Someday, I will get acquainted with tang sights and long shots with patched ball. Be well.

I haven't tried making my own....have a fair amount of 'bore butter' to work with.

But does anyone know of a lube that won't melt at summer temp weather? I tried using bore butter at the range during the summer (temps mid80's to mid90's) and the stuff just turns to liquid! Makes it almost impossible to seal the chambers of my 1858 Remington without creating a super mess!
