Iron Sights

Just bought a CVA Wolf for my wife. Took it to the range, but can't get the bullet down using a "fine" sight picture. The rear sight is all the way down the ramp and at 25 yds the bullet strikes 3 inches high. Any suggestions, besides changing the sight picture and trying to describe the new sight picture to her.

Does it already have the Durabright Fiber optic sights?

Thanks Petey, but yes it does already have the fiber optic sights. I just don't understand why I can't get it shoot right. My other CVA I had no trouble at all.

I have a different model in the CVA that has the Fiber optic sights and you can drive taks with it.

Seems like you may have to use a different sight picture, unless you can find a taller front post from another after market sight manufacturer. A quick fix is obviously using a different sight picture and placing your target on top of the front bead instead of on it.

Is it possible to shim the front post up? I would even consider contacting CVA and telling them your issue. Basically the sights are adjusted "all the way" and it still shoots high. Something must be out of whack.

Is WV iron sights only? Who knows, they are making these inlines now-a-days with the intention of people placing scopes on them and probably are slapping iron sights on them just for looks!

Here's a couple sight options to try. A) Place target on top of front bead. If this is already how you are already shooting, B) try placing front bead in the bottom of the rear sight, leaving target at the top of the rear sight.

Petey, my sight picture is identical as your sight picture "A". WV allows a scope, but my wife wants to shoot with Iron Sights because she shoots all of her other guns with a scope. I tried to tell her that we may have to use a different sight picture such as your "B" picture, but she says that will be too difficult to use as she says it's almost like guessing where the target should be. I think she has a point. I guess will contact CVA and see what they say. Thanks to everyone that answered.

Another possibility - get different sights. talk to someone at a local gun shop and see if they have sights that will fit that gun. If it's a dovetail system, much easier. Good luck!

How is the shot placement with this gun ? If it is throwing hits around on the target it may be more then the sights. The company may just send a new gun in that case.

Nulle, the gun shots great. Nice group using 100 pyro and 245 gr Power Belts.

Oh good, 100 grains is to much for that bullet in the first place. Drop her charge down to 80 grains * this is the max charge for that bullet* and you should be ready to go! This should put you close to dead on @ 100.

If you are using pellets, One 50gr and One 30gr will do. I'd buy loose powder as its a lot cheaper and gets a lot more shot for your money

I have not had the problem with the powder charge and have loaded mine to the max with no problem on accuracy at all. Each gun may be different and I guess it is worth a try. For what amount I shoot the cost of the pellets is not an issue and they are sure nice to work with that is one of the reasons I went to the modern type B/P.

max load is fine but dont put that 245 PB into a deer at close range.

try thefiber optic sights from tru glow. i have them on my cva's and they work very well

I agree, tru-glo has the ghost ring set up, it comes with your normal style rear sight and then the ghost ring. I put this set up on a winchester X-150 and it was a huuuuuge improvement. They are not to small, not to big, just the perfect size and the optics do not hurt your eyes as some fiber optics are just to bright. Excellent deal for $42 at cabelas.
