Power Belt or Sabot??
Just wanting to get some info on the Power Belt and Sabot loads. I just bought my first muzzleloader. A CVA Wolf .50Cal. I figured since I have never done any hunting with blackpower that I wouldn't not spend to much money for a high end rifle till I got familar with all of it. Anyway, I have been reading about the PowerBelt and Sabot loads. Is there such a big difference? I have read pros and cons for both. Does it come down to personal preference? Just looking at what would be best to use for next years deer season. Any help is greatly appreciated.

They wolf will do just about anything you ask so i dont think you did bad i no 2 guys that have them and no problims.
Bullits tend to be more of perconel choice guys will swear buy what they youse and when they come to deer most will work fine. My b-law swears by power belts and my cousin swears by hornady sabots get a few of each find what you gun likes best then buy some more so when you want to go hunting you dont have to find them becouse around here as you get closer to blk powder seasen the harder it is to find them they sell out. |

I really like the Hornaday 250 grn SST saboted bullets. T/C shockwaves are the same. I now use the new Blackhorn 209 powder.

I have a CVA Wolf. It shoots just about anything real well. But, for hunting deer I use a 300gr Barnes Expander MZ with a Harvestor black crushed rib sabot. For hunting I use the Pyrodex pellets, 2 50gr. Just out target shooting I buy Hornaday XTPs in 250gr in bulk, crushed rib sabots, and use loose Pyrodex RS cause it is cheaper to shoot.

I use 100 gr of loose 777 behind a saboted(.429 hornady) 44 cal. 240 gr Speer soft nose bullet. These worked well in my 44 Mag and figure the ML is just about duplicating the 44's ballistics I see no reason to use anything else. Max range I would ever shoot anything is 125-150 with most at under 100. Beside I have about 1000 of these bullets.

I bought thepowerbelts for my CVA and it groupd them fine. I use 2 50gr Triple7 pellets. I haven't shot a deer with it yet, but I'd expect it to perform well.
