Smile Help Identifying a Rem 12ga barrel

I need help in identifing a Remington 12GA barrel I purchased at an estate sale. The barrel has the usual Remington marking on one side and is marked 12GA for 2 3/4 or 3 inch shells on the other side. It is vent ribbed with a white bead front site and a middle of rib silver bead. It is glossy and is REM CHOKE ready. The part that slides over the shell tube has what looks like a spring or clip on the front. I think it is a Rem 11-87 Priemier barrel but not sure! Your help would be appreciated. Thanks Tobyjugg

Barrel

If you can post a picture..but it sounds like you have a Rem 11-87 barrel. How long is it from end of bbl to chamber? Good condition and do you have the chokes? The piece that goes over the end is there to allow use of 2 3/4 or 3 in loads..It is kind of an over pressure part....as well as a spacer for the forend. Also is it marked Light contour anywhere on the bbl? I happen to like 11-87's and 1100's for that matter. Have a few..And if ya know how to fit it that bbl can be used on an 1100...even if Remington says ya can't

Hi Skeet and thanks for getting back to me on this! The barrel is just under 28", I do not have the chokes, and I do not see any markings for Light or Standard Contour Barrel. The barrel is in excellent condition with a very glossy finish and as I stated in my post it has a white front bead and silver middle bead and vent rib. I will try to attach photos and if not successful, can you instruct me on how to post them. Thanks Pete (Tobyjugg)

Not really necessary..What you have is an earlier 12 ga 11-87 barrel. After a few years they went to a light contour bbl to reduce weight to make the gun"feel" like an 1100. 3 inch guns retained the heavy contour but they had a different finish. If ya got it cheap you did good.. Just bought one at a gun show for a hundred bucks w/chokes. Put it on an old 1100 I bought at a yard sale..shoots good. Shot a pheasant or 2 with it. I now have 275 bucks tied up in that gun.

Thanks Skeet! I plan on selling the barrel since I don't have an 11-87 or 1100, what do you think its worth without the chokes? Again it is in excellent condition!!! Pete
