10/22 stock question
Anybody know if there is a stock available for a 10/22 carbine with the cut through for a sling like on a m1 carbine? Just wanting to use my factory barrel, I already found a company that makes a barrel band with a sling swivel on it.

GOB, I love the 10/22, but that barrel band is the worst thing on them, IMO.
The barrel band will be a problem if you decide to go with a larger diameter barrel later, as many do. You will also find that, as the rifle ages a bit, the stock may shrink just a hair- just enough to make that barrel band loose enough to slide off the stock when you're carrying it by the sling. You can tighten the barrel band further with the screw, but there's a limit to that. Not to mention, the barrel band contact on the barrel does nothing for accuracy. If you have the new model 10/22 that is without the barrel band, you are waaayyy ahead of the game, IMO- stay that way. I have not seen a 10/22 aftermarket stock with the cut for the sling, a la M-1 carbine, BTW.

I don't have a problem with barrel bands in general. And the problem with going with a larger diameter barrel is iron sights. I don't plan to ever mount a scope on this gun. Pure iron sights all the way. It is a field carry gun for fox and cat squirrel (and rabbit) and it needs to stay light and quick.

You could always put a red dot on it, and it would still be quick and light. Even with a bull barrel on mine, it is still pretty light compared to my other rifles.

don't really want anything electronic on it either. I am thinking about eventually putting a williams rear peep sight on it. Main reason I wanted the m1carbine style stock was so that when I had it slung (for crossing creeks, climbing embankments, etc) it would lay flat on my back, not up on edge.

First, I heartily recommend the Williams aperture sight. I put one on my junker rebuild and love it. The required higher front sight comes with one of those super-bright fiber optic thingies, too.
Have you considered adding a sling swivel set, but mounting it on the side of the stock instead of the bottom? Ought to work just fine.

I considered it, my concern is what the swivel stud is going to do to my back packing it over some of the terrain I sometimes fequent when squirrel hunting. That and I am concerened that screwing into the grain from the side might split the stock. I may have to break down and just do the cut through myself on a spare stock (not going to risk fowling up my one good one)
