Crows?

Anyone ever hunt crows? I am interested in trying my luck on them with a .22LR (I am actually a pretty accurate shot with a .22), and I have seen some good recipes online for crow breasts. Most online information I have seen recommends a shotgun for hunting crows, but since I see a lot of crows normally perched on tree branches, I would guess they would be easier to take with a .22 than say a pheasant or grouse.

I have shot some with a rifle and it is fun. They are a pretty smart bird and many folks use a owl decoy and the crows flock in to pester the decoy and thats where they shot gun them.
Far as eating them "good luck with that" I have never tried or got hungry enough to do that lol

Good luck with that! If you can take one and take it with a .22, you are off on your way to sniper school, as they have very keen eyesight and are one of the smartest birds on the planet!

....well, I guess there are some folks out there that will try anything ONCE! After having seen some of the things crows eat, I think I'll pass!

I used to hunt crows a lot. It was a lot of fun. My dad still asks me to go out and hunt them, but I just didn't have the time this year. The most I have ever shot was 42 in a day, on two occasions, between two people.

I use an electronic caller and crow decoys. The two best days I had were when I brought a tall pole along and put a crow decoy on top of it. Of course, it also required bring a post hole digger along too. When the crows saw that sentry, they just couldn't resist coming by.

As mentioned above, they have great eye sight and they are very smart. Once I figured out what direction they were coming from, I always put myself behind a tall bush and would shoot them as they came over it. If you move at all and you are in their line of sight, the game is over. Another thing you have to worry about is one of them catching on to what is going on and flying off just out of gun range and sounding the alarm for all the other birds coming along. That is usually game over.
