.223 70g
I am trying to load .223 70 gr spbt.
24 gr varget. The information I have found is the the overall length of the loaded 70gr round is 2.200" If I do this the round will not chamber. The bullet hits I have to shorten the overall length to 2.170 before it will chamber. Is this a problem? |

Speer and Hodgdon use a COL of 2.140" in their data for a 70 gr bullet. I don`t know the bullet you plan to use but you should be OK if you work up your load at a shorter lenght. Nothing is cut in stone as far as the manuals recommenations. Your rifle will tell you what lenght, powder charge, bullet, ect, it likes and that is what you should work with.

No, 2.200 to 2.170 isn't a big enough difference to be a problem.
Every rifle is different - the manuals give you a suggestion that should work in most rifles, but it's a starting point, not something chiseled in stone.

IF..YOU LOADING FOR A SEMI AUTO, REDUCE THE LOAD 1 GRAIN, AND SEAT THE BULLETS ACCORDING TO WHAT WORKS OK IN YOUR MAGAZINE, YOU WONT HAVE A PROBLEM ( ARE U REMEMBERING TO CRIMP ?)
if for a bolt gun... JUST PUT A BULLET JUST BARLEY INTO THE CASE MOUTH, ( NON PRIMED NON POWDER CASE) AND PUT IT CAREFULLY INTO THE GUN, THEN FORCE THE BOLT CLOSED AND OPEN IT, REMOVE THE SHELL, YOUR BULLET SHOULD BE SEATED TO MAX OUTWARD DISTANCE , MOVE IT BACK A LITTLE BIT AND YOUR GOOD TO GO.. |
