Just found a new Rifle..

New to me anyway. Fellow has a 19 cal Calhoon he wants to sell. It is built on a CZ 527 action. Has 2000 rounds of loaded ammo and all the dies cleaning stuff and another 400 bullets to go with it..oh some once fired brass too. He's asking 1100 bucks for it. Is it a good price for the darn thing? I bought a bunch of (shooting)stuff from him at a yard sale. Asked about gus and that is what he came up with. Any answers will be appreciated. Thanks

I don't know if that's a good price or not, but you sure do have the luck when it comes to yard/garage sale finds!

Well I did ok on all the stuff I bought

The Calhoon is gonna come home with me tomorrow. The new Cabelas opens tomorrow and I just gotta go. I did get an invite..with discounts etc. Today I also bought a couple more guns. I only wanted one but hadda buy 'em both. one was a Rem 700 VLS in 223 NIB..the other was a S&W M-25 Mountain gun... Think I is crazy..and yesterday I bought a really neat little S&W M-43 22 kit gun..flat latch lightweight frame. Low Low serial too. Might actually be a collectible. Been picking up lots of high end bullets lately.. mostly at yard sales. Bought a bunch of Barnes X bullets. Also found a fairly nice Rem 700 BDL in 7mm Express(280 Rem) that I think I will buy. Somebody had to have my Ruger 77 in 280 worse than I did...so I sold it.

Skeet

CZ action all by its lonesome is worth about $ 459.00. Then by the time you barrel, chamber, and stock the rifle I believe you would be well on your way to $ 1100.00 Sounds ike a deal to me.

Thanks for the reply JPLH

Gonna take a look at the 700 in 7MM Express tomorrow morning. I can buy it for 375 but no scope. The fellow that spent my money on the 2 guns today bought another 7MM Mag Rem from him and told me the Express looks almost new. We'll see. All the stuff I got from the fellow with the Calhoon included a as new Burris 3X12 LER handgun scope. Gonna put it on ebay I think. I surely don't need it..even got another Ruger 77/22Hornet mag in the batch of stuff..thought there were 3 but 2 were 77/22 magnum mags. Gotta get rid of some of this stuff. Got a gun show in 10 days

I'm into collectin 30-30s mostly nowdays myself. Just missed a pre-64 winchester the other day at a shop for $275 that was in the original box. It had a box of Imperial brand cartridges with it with three left in it. The original owner used it to take 17 deer, that was the only rounds ever fired from it. I nearly cried when I found out (not that I could afford it right now, but I coulda sold a kidney or something sheesh!)

what little money I have spare these days is going into scopes, bullets, powder and primers (when I can find any)
The last thing I need now is a new 'mouth to feed'.

I just love those yard sale finds.

I mounted a $3 yard sale scope today. It is a old Weaver K-3. It has a small dent just behind the height adjustment knob and about 75% of the blueing is gone, but the glass and crosshairs was clear, so at three bucks I had to at least give it a try . I needed a scope anyway, so I bought it. Good chance the old Weaver tip off rings and mounts that were on it are worth $3.

It works as good as a new one, as far as I could tell at the range today.

Few short weeks ago the 3X9 on my 22 WMR failed. It is a lifetime warranted scope but is still laying in a box ready for the post office, so I had not been shooting the 22WMR at all.

I think I just might take a look see if the whistle pigs are still up and about tomorrow.

Yard sale scope

Welcome to HC. You made a great buy..3 bucks for a K3!! wow..For all my intermediate shooting that is my all time favorite scope...especially if it has a post crosshair of one with a dot. Hope you like it.

Now..as for my weekend at the gun show..sold a lot and bought a lot. My best buy in my opinion was a Leupold VariX III 2 1/2x8 scope(with dot crosshair) in exc condition for a hundred bucks..I was flabbergasted when the guy told me the price. On a down side though I sold one of my Weaver K-6 scopes..with a post..I still have one with a dot. On a very bright side I found a Smith and Wesson 657 41 mag....4 inch(darn) in really good condition for 550 bucks. I am now a happy camper. I can finally shoot some of that 41 mag ammo I got a few years ago. I did get a new set of RCBS dies with it too...but I had to buy a Colt Diamondback 22 6 inch from the same guy..package deal..Paid the same for it. Not a big fan of Colts but think it was a good deal. Got lots of littles...even got a Bair Big C press for 20 bucks..like I needed it. Hard to beat those old American iron presses

Go whack some more of those whistlepigs, LH! That K-3 ought to be about a perfect match for your rifle, or on Karen's. She gets close enough to them that she wouldn't need more scope power.

Skeet, your finds astound me. Those are some of THE most collectible guns anywhere!

Collectible guns

Rocky ... I bought 600 rounds of factory 41 mag ammo at an estate auction 4 yrs ago...for 2 bucks a box. and 500 new brass and 400 bullets for 20 bucks??..Been looking for a gun since then. Guy had one of the new 57's at the gun show...and it is no contest.. The olders ones are really much better in quality..and I like a hammer with a real firing pin. I know the new style Smiths are probably "safer" but they don't have that "panache" of the older ones. I had an older Diamondback 22 in 4 inch one time...one of the most accurate revolvers I ever had.. But for some reason I just like Smith & Wesson better. I am going to shoot this Colt though. I shoot those nasty blackbirds and grackels that chase the little pretty birds away from the feeder..bird shot of course.. I can get more of 'em with each shot thataway!

I also acquired one of the newer 700SPS rifles in 223...new but no box. Only paid 400 for it but it's a rifle I can shoot and hunt PDogs etc with and not worry about banging up. I bought a Ruger 77 (280)stainless guns with plastic stock last fall just to hunt with.. So I don't beat up my ol purty rifles. I had another one in 280 that I sold..it had a purty wood stock. Them mountains are hard on guns..on me too. gettin too old for this mountain stuff...welllll...maybe not yet

Great buys

While I was there I had a fellow bring a nice Marlin straight grip 30-30 in. I am not into lever guns too much but he wanted 375 bucks for it. Really nice too. It was an older straight grip rifle (Texan?) and I didn't know if I should pick it up for you or not. That SPS is new but it has a camoflooge stock and it has the hang tag that states it has the new type trigger?? For what I paid I guess it was ok. I gotta get the Ruger I bought the other day scoped up. It is a 22-250 so I need a pretty decent scope for it..Have a nice Bushnell Elite 3200 5 x 15 I can put on it to see how it shoots. Coyotes are going on a rampage.. Just have to waste a few. My plumber wants the VLS I got the other day..to match up with the VLS 22-250 he stole from me..for putting in the basement bath.
