Where did he go....Where did who go?
Well we did the first quail hunt at the farm, ever, on our wild birds. Now I have been "hunting" pen raised birds for several years and; They Just Ain't the Same. I think I like hunting quail in nice yellow grass with an oak brush patch here and there. Nice swing, nice shot, find the bird, etc.
As my buddy said: Look out across your farm, if you see a place where you can get the gun up and get a good shot, don't go there because there ain't no birds. You see that blackberry bramble thicket over there with no way to get a shot, that is where the birds are and they wont come up till you are neck beep in blackberry thorns. He was right on. We had a great morning, saw good places to hunt, ran the dogs and shot 3 shots and killed exactly 0 birds. But it was fun and we did get to see just how wiley a piney woods, blackberry thicket quail can be. When they get up and you do not see a single bird through the thicket that is pretty sporting. But we did shoot two nice pine trees and I shot a place where a quail was, an instant before he took a hard left around a pine tree, leaving me an HIA (Hole in Air). Best Ed

Well, congrats on the pine trees anyway I've missed out on all hunting and fishing since I've been here. They do fishing trips here but they're all on a boat in the middle of a lake but I'm hooked on fly fishing and nothing else will do. I'm definitely looking forward to hittin the river next spring and the mountains next fall to get some food in the freezer

Thanks Tater. How long you got left on your tour, getting short yet?
Seems to me that I recall that the Koreans have a partridge like bird that our GIs used to hunt or seems as how I recall some conversations about bird hunting in Korea back when I had a closer association with guys that spent a few years in Korea, hunting other things besides birds. Best, and a good holiday time to you. Ed

Yeah, pretty short. I'll be outta here in just a couple months It's been fun and I've met a lot of really great people but I'm ready to go home.
As for the birds, I think there is some hunting to be done around here but you gotta be tight with the locals to get in on that.

Never saw any grouse like birds in Korea in the 50s, did see pheasants, geese, ducks and cranes.

Yup, we got pheasant running all over the bomb dump and ducks and geese flying over all the time. The ducks they got here are pretty tiny but fast; they look like they'd be frustrating to try and shoot
