Unhappy It's sad when childhood heros pass......

One of the biggest inspirations of my childhood, and one of the main reasons for my interest in traditional muzzleloading.

To his credit, he never did anything to mar the image that he portrayed, and to my knowledge was never involved in any scandal that would cause me to think less of him.

May God bless him and his family, and may he rest in peace.

Mr. 16guage:

You're dating yourself saying that Fess Parker was a childhood hero. Don't fret though, I'm an old fart too and he was one of mine. He will definitely be missed. We need more role models like Fess Parker, John Wayne, Charlton Heston, etc. for the kids coming along today. Unfortunately there are too many Sean Penn-type personalities out there now.

Mr. 16 gauge,

Excellent post! We grew up in the 1950s and Fess Parker was part of the culture.

I had all that stuff too plus a plate and mug set (that I still have stuffed away in the attic).

Well, I'm not quite that old....grew up in the 60's on the Daniel Boone TV show, and saw him as Davy Crockett on Disney reruns and Wonderful World of Disney (Sunday nights, 7 PM...last event of the weekend before we started school on Monday morning!)
I didn't have the coonskin cap or rifle until much later....found 'em on a family trip to TN.

...and when I was a kid playing in the woodlot behind my house, I wasn't just playing Danl' Boone..I was Fess Parker being Danl' Boone!

Davey Crockett got me kicked out of music class!!!

After weeks of long hair music in class, some one brought in a Davey Crockett record.

I had to lip off and say "Finally we get to listen to some decent music."

I didn't get to listen to the record as I got sent to the principals office. I do not remember what happened there but I do not think he did anything to punish me.

It is to bad that the youth of today do not have celebrities like Fess Parker to look up to instead of the idiot stars of today that can not seem to keep out of trouble.
