New world record distance!

To anyone who has not heard this one yet, a British soldier has set a new world record distance sniper kill. The thing that makes it doubly unique is that it was a double kill (i.e. two shots, two kills) in one engagement.

The British soldier's name is Craig Harrison and he observed Taliban bad guys working at killing his commander and fellow soldiers. Two of the Taliban were in the correct place at the correct time. Mr Harrison kill one Taliban, changed point of aim and killed a second Taliban.

The distance:

8,120 Ft.
2,706.67 Yrds.
1.54 Miles.

Here is a link to the Fox News report that announced it.

That is two shots, two kills with in moments of each other.

Congratulations on a saving his fellow soldier's and setting a new record.

I saw a thing on the Military about this. They tried to duplicate the shot and couldn't do it. If the sniper is really that good that is awesome. If he was lucky I would care less. Two more bad guys pushing daises.

Don't know when the actual encounter happened but the Fox News report was on this morning 06 May 2010.

So this seems to be a fairly new Record, and I try to watch all of the Military channel shows that discus long range marksmanship and I've not seen one on this encounter as of yet. If it was shown there I wish I had seen it.

The last one that I recall on the History channel was about the Canadian Sniper (Cpl. Bill) that made his record in the Afghanistan mountains (2,657 Yds.) that exceeded Gunnery Sgt. Carlos Hathcock's record kill (2,500 Yrds.) from Vietnam. It took him 3 shots to get the range and make the hit, using a dedicated sniper rifle, and was less than 200 yards more that Hathcock's longest. Hathcock used a M-2 Browning machine gun with a scope mounted on it, firing only 1 round to make his record.
