The Single Shot Forum (handgun & rifle)

You could solve the need felt by some for a specific gun forum by just going to a general Single Shot subject title. That would pull in the TC, Handi Rifle, MOA, Encore, XL, XP, Savage, Ruger, Martini, Browning, BF, Sharps, Remington, Winchester, etc.

Many old cartridges come alive with their loading for and use in a modern single shot. Plus the single shot VS any old style locking bolt system like the 94 Win is just no contest at all.

Also the single shooter, as a hunter, is another breed of cat. They must have a great deal of confidence in their ability to place one shot where it counts, when it counts.

I like the idea, but I would like it to include old single shot shotguns as well. I love old single shot guns, and I still hunt with them.

I believe it would be a forum of interest.

Another message board I frequent (I won't mention the name) has a forum just for NEFs (both rifles and shotguns). It gets a surprisingly large amount of activity. For what it's worth, here's another vote for a single-shot forum.

I think it's a great idea for a Single Shot Firearms site. I love my single shots!

What do we need to do to get this forum off the ground?

Well Petey, what do you think. You are the person that would have to make the room on the boards / computer and do the actual work to create the forum? Do you have the time to do this and do you think it would be benificial as a place for all single shot (rifles, handguns and shotguns) and their shooters to discuss and address some specific issues?

I think all single shot users are keenly aware that the reloading books worth their salt, treat the modern single shots differently. The immediate illustration that comes to mind and best example of this is the 45-70 which is widely shown as a very effective and very powerful cartridge as reloaded for the Ruger #1. However, in truth, you can go down the list of old BP cartridges and apply the very same process to each and every cartridge in a single shot platform.

There are some forms on this site that are very inactive, may be Petey can make room for a Single Shot Form. I think the single shots have gained a lot of popularity in recent years and still is by the amount of new offerings by arms manufacturers. It's similar to archers going back to long and recurve bows.

What you said hit a cord with me as I recalled another matter which I think is important in consideration of the forum; some states are now changing their muzzle loading hunting season to "Traditional Firearms" and enacting legislation to allow firearms of a design prior to X date, or reproductions there of, single shot and with an exposed hammer to be used in the, what was previously a muzzle loading only, hunting season. MS is one state that has done this and the muzzle loaders have all but disappeared from the hunting landscape in MS within just a couple of years. What in fact has happened was a new hunting season was born, for single shot cartridge rifles and shotguns.

And another vote for a Single Shot Thread Forum.

I've shot single shots all my life, and there are many more that I've not had the pleasure to shoot as of yet. I think it would be an interesting and informative addition, if Petey has the time and inclination to add it.

I'm going to bring this up again for discussion. In going through the various topics available I see some that the last post was in 2009. I think that those of us that like Single Shot Firearms would do alot better than this. Just a thought.
