Slight twist
I have a late 40's Bear Grizzly that has a slight twist to it. By slight i mean, with one limb flat on the table the other rocks up about 1/16 inch. my ? is does a slight twist affect the shootabilaty of a bow that much or is it just a piece of mind thing. Does it affect mayby vibration resulting in noise or is it not enough for the common ear to tell? My other ? is, is there anyway to take a slight twist out of a bow, mayb with wood clamps and torque it the oppisite way for a while/ or something..

You may be able to clamp it to get the twist out. It will probably shoot ok the way it is but I'd rather have it straight.. Is this a recurve?? From the 40's??

Ummm. not really. Some bows it is the first number in the serial..and others were not dated in the serial..The grizzly was supposedly made from 49 to approx 1980 Is the handle leather wrapped? If made in the early years they all were If made in 48 it will be made of all wood no laminations with a kind of semi recurve Small running bear on the bow?? Or a larger standing bear?? What color is the inlaid medallion? They only really dated the bow in the serial for about 10 yrs..maybe less

Well this is two colors of wood together (both brown). It does not have leather on it. And the medallion is not inlaid it is glued on with the large standing bear on it. Not sure why i had it in my head that serial # reflected date made, maybe som1 told me that once, who knows. The last 4 digits of the # are 1948 so seemed logical.

If the medallion is not inlaid the bow will probably date from the mid 70s. I think they wwere inlaid until 72... No leather wrapped handle definitely dates it after 1965..and laminated wood was definitely after the late 40's..After about 1966 -69..they started the serial number sequence all over again..

You know..if it were me and I wanted to shoot the bow I'd take it to a REAL archery shop and see what the resident bow guy has to say.. It may just be ok.. The worst that can happen is they tell you it's best not to shoot it. I had a Tamerlane that had delaminated and found it could be fixed at a cost greater than it was worth. It was a great shooting bow too.
