North Country Trail

I am sure most of you heard of the Appalachian trail and there are a few more around the Country. The North Country Trail passes my house, goes through the woods, gamelands etc but does run into a few that won't let anyone enter their property line and you have to walk a road. This is a very nice trail to take the family for an afternoon hike. We have the Wampum Chapter in this area and we spent the day marking the trails for hikers. Trail goes from North Dakota to New York and I know I will never get to walk the whole thing but we have covered quite a bit of local parts. I do have a cousin that has done the Appalachian top to bottom and one out west from the north border of Canada to Mexico...He has done quite a distance on this one...But for an interesting read on History, nice views, etc google North Country Trail.

There are actually quite a few long trails like that (and, yes, one of them is named the Long Trail ).
Pacific Crest trail, Continental Divide Trail, American Discovery trail, Ice age Trail, and others. A good place to find out about trails and hikers is: http://www.trailjournals.com/
All of those trails depend on volunteers like yourself for trail maintenance, marking, etc.

The 'North Country Trail' passes by our property, about a mile away. The section I see is trimmed at times. The trail is lightly used in our part of the U.P. of MI. I'm usually in other areas but not a bad idea for a walk with the son.

I've hiked almost 90 miles of the North Country Trail here in PA from below Clarion almost to the NY state line. Most of the trail north of my place runs through the Allegany National forest and is a very scenic and in some places very steep. It's a great hike and it's very well maintained out here.

I've day hiked a few portions of the Appalachian Trail where it crosses Schyulkill County. Hawk Mountain is my favorite.

I've been following Andrew's exploits for some time:

There are a lot of trails, including the AT, that are on my bucket list. Maybe not to through hike, but.........

Hunted grouse last wek on a section of it here in Wisconsin. Well marked and easier walking than a skidding trail.
