"Will you check me out on this Hakim?"

Yesterday, a neighbor came by with a Very Good+ Hakim 8mm Rifle he found at a yard sale the prior Saturday. I was surprised I missed this one since this is a very small town and I yard sale EVERY Saturday.

I showed the lad how to strip the Hakim and I cleaned the bore. The bore is excellent and the stock is VG+. The rear sight leaf slide is broken and if pulled to the rear with the sight leaf elevated, it comes off. In the down position, it stays in place and allows full use of the battle sight.

At the bench with 150 grain reloads, she hits about 4 inches high and dead center at 100 yards. My calculations determined the front sight needs to be .07" higher for POA/POI. Overall, the lad did well for $175.00. I gave him my last issue of "Shotgun News" with dog-earred pages listing Hakim parts. I suspect I will install the parts when they arrive.

Adam Helmer, As a gunsmith, I am always getting in on a project for a younger fellow with little hope of a monetary profit. I do acquire new friends and appreciative younger shooters. Good luck.

Larryjk,

I hear ya loud and clear. I guess we should post a list of "HELPS" provided in the past to younger shooters:

Last week a lad took his dad's M1911 .45 apart and nearly got it back together when he got it jammed up-Big Time. He got the recoil spring plug under the barrel bushing and kinked the recoil spring for good measure.

Another lad got a cleaning patch about the size of a pillow case jammed into a nice M1909 Argentine Rifle barrel.

The list goes on and on. Mostly, I can be of assist and the lads are on track for better gun maintenance, I hope. Now, when it comes to reloading, there is another list of stuff.

Be well,

Adam

Got one in my friends ship last month that was a real SNAFU. Big youn fello took his M15 .223 and used a .30 cal Otis pull through cleaner. An I mean he reall had it in there. My friend had to make a cutter to remove the offending brush, all came out well.
