Savage ML-10 II

Just got word the other day that Savage is going to make another small run of their ML-10 II Smokeless Powder muzzleloader this year..possibly even 2..So if you would like to own one the the best muzzleloaders ever made check with some Savage sellers. The Savage is the only Muzzleloader made today(or ever I guess) that is proof fired at the factory..nope not even the Encore muzzys are proofed..and the Savage will shoot Black, Pyrodex, 777, Blackhorn 209 and, of course, selected smokeless powders. No..it is not a 300 yd muzzleloader..none of them are.... but with smokeless and the Blackhorn 209..cleaning is not the chore it is with any Blackpowders or the equivalents such as 777 or Pyrodex.. in fact with smokeless powder you only have to clean about once every 100 shots..but I do it more often. From what I understand the gun is going to be made in blue with a black composite stock $680 bucks. I'm gonna get one for my grandson..and granddaughter I guess

If I were to ever get another muzzle loader just for huntimg it definately would be one that shoot modern powder. I have even considered makeing one my self and putting it on a Savage action, but I just don`t get excited about deer hunting any more. It`s funny though, back when I was shooting alot of muzzle loader I always wanted a 40 cal flinter. About 15 yrds. ago I traded a trap gun for a real nice Tennesse Poor Boy and still have never shot it. I definately don`t have too many guns, I just havr too many to shoot them all.

LOL..best way I think I've heard it said in quite a while. I have many times tried to convince myself I need a flinter..then I remember how much fun it is to clean the darn things. and the frustration flinters sometimes cause..and say the same thing..got too many to shoot 'em all anyway. The modern powders such as Pyrodex and 777 are not really reliable in a flint lock without a small charge of black next to the touch hole(if then) and they are very expensive per shot if you use the pellet things. I must admit though that I liked shooting the ol T-C Hawken caplock..I did not like cleaning it, though. I no longer shoot the old Pa gun either..it was made in 1799 and was converted to a caplock way back in the mid 1800's i guess..It was a real pain to clean..fun to shoot as were my old Colt percussion revolvers..I have 3 originals but they are really worth too much to shoot as is the Pa gun..I still think I NEED a flinter though...LOL

An old post but As a follow up on the Savage Smokeless powder guns..they discontinued making them..and now they are bringing in the 1500-2000 dollar range. I'm rich.. Also...I couldn't stand it and I did buy a flinter.. A T-C Hawken 50 cal. Gun was in exc condition and I paid 200 bucks. Yes I have shot it..and cleaned it.. of course. Will I shoot it more..probably not. Reliable shooter. But very distracting if you can't ignore the flash in the pan. And we have no separate muzzleloader seasons here in Wy. The Savage is a nice deer gun so I will use it..With the right load and bullet it is a 250 yd whitetail gun. My average whitetail shot is under 50 yds though
