ALICE gear (pouches)
I am looking for a good trusted site to pickup a few ALICE gear pouches. Particularly I am looking for the first aid/compass pouch (single clip on the back) preferably in the old cotton canvass but I will deal with nylon if I must, and I am looking to pickup a IFAK LC-2 Medic Pouch (just the pouch not the kit). This is all for my bugout belt. (That's right I am working on a bugout belt instead of a bugout bag at the moment) Anyway I was hoping that some of my fellow HCers had a good military surplus site that they were used to dealing with that might still have this gear, or even better might have some pieces they were willing to part with. MOLLE gear has taken over the surplus sites and I don't think I want to try to replace twenty years worth of collected ALICE gear at this point. Then again I could always use ALICE adapters for MOLLE gear if I found something compatible with what I am looking for.

Well through the wonders of the internet I have finally acquired (it was a scramble to get it before somebody else did) the IFAK pouch (holds a box of shotgun shells or a couple cans of soda perfect. Didn't realize the IFAK had such a large gap on the sides at the top, oh well for what I wound up paying for it I can't complain, even if it is nylon. After taking a look at the nylon first aid/compass pouches I will wait until I can find the canvas ones. I did however get my LC-1 Y load bearing suspenders in and adjusted, and also discovered that the cold steel bolo machete I have is a weeee bit uncomfortable for long carry due to length and width. Since I have always been a fan of Ontario machetes I will most likely save up my pennies and purchase a sawback 12" from them (the .125" not the .080"), and then try to find a decent sheath for it (or make one) I also have a Rothco repro canvas butt pack on the way now for the rig so when that comes in I will have to redo the Y but that's a quick and easy job so no biggie.
Here is a question. I keep seeing reference made to strapping the machete to the top of the butt pack, but danged if I can find a SINGLE example in picture form of how it is done. Anybody help me out? maybe some better instructions for the process? Heck even a way to mount the sheath on the back up high on the LB suspenders? Anyway I am open to suggestions. I also realized that I had it backwards. The adapters will adapt ALICE to MOLLE/MOLLE II but apparently not the other way around. Drat. GoodOlBoy
