Question lead lead on where art thou lead?

So I am still using my 405 grain RNFP mold (because I have it) while I save up my increasingly rare pennies for the mold I want. But now I can't find lead to save my life.... sheesh.... recycle centers, car shops, wheel shops, scuba shops, etc. Well isn't that just ducky. Even tried an old boat yard (some old boats had lead ballasts FYI) and nadda....

Any idears fellers?

Lead pipe and lead flashing are some other sources. Ask plumbers and roofers.
If there's a scrap yard in your area, that might be a place to buy some, too.

GOB,

I am too soon old and too late smart! I bought this 60-acre farm 25 years ago and gleefully shot my guns in the backyard. I SHOULD have placed a 4 foot X 8 foot sheet of mild steel in the backyard on a downward angle for a bullet trap. THEN I would know where to go for bullet lead.

nice catch on that one wrenchman. I am about to replace the old worn out battery cables on my old truck, should be about half a dozen 405 grain .458s worth of lead there (several patches and adapters will become nice new clean cables). Other than that I am still looking.

+1 about 10-15# hand cast lead boat anchor from an old barn. Has a steel rebar loop on it, but I figure it's mostly lead..... had it in my head to find old dive weights, but most of my old scuba sources appear to have gotten out shortly after I did back in the day..... darnit....

Thumbs up

Plenty of lead ingots and scuba weights on ebay. Prices are going up though.
I just recently lucked out. My Father passed away last month, and I am helping Mom go through his old things, and the man was a packrat on his property for fifty years. I knew he'd used lead to make boat anchors. Found his lead mould for sein net weights too - will be good for smallish ingots. Finally found his stash of lead - two coffee cans full of net weights! Jackpot!
I had gotten all I needed to begin casting boolits except the lead. He has a bunch of old batteries too - I know to NOT use the plates within them, but the posts look like good lead. Gotta see about sawing them off.
I also had thought of lead flashing. Have a work friend who is supposed to be getting some cutoffs from flashing he used awhile back.

Now, I need tin and linotype! I've seen it on ebay, but would prefer a local source.
