Let us not forget a 1/4 inch piece of earthworm on a bronze #6 Eagle Claw Aberdeen Crickett Hook, a can of beer, a keen eye, and the ability to jerk the lips off a 400lb catfish in less time than it takes to blink. . . . . .

Best of the best

A small white spinner bait.

I have taken 3 foot gar and 27" smallmouth on mine. And lots of redeyes and other stuff including a couple of big drum ( but I won't tell about those)! Beetle spind can accout for some goodies also!

Mepps spinners of different sizes and colors also.

LouisB

Course it is only my opinion

I'd say a lead head jig, but that's too easy.

If down to one I'd take a Rapala Shad Rap, 2 3/4" in Firetiger.

Roadrunners are a great go to lure for me when the action is slow on the bass...a great crappie presentation in the smaller offerings as well!

Boy...it'd almost be a toss up for me as far as the best (kinda like saying only one rifle or shotgun... ) lot depends on the quarry and conditions. it have to be down to the Rapala Shad Rap in the natural shad color and/or a white 1/2oz. sinle Colorodo bladed spinner-bait. I'd give the nod probably to the spinner-bait being that you can burn it through cover, is relatively snag-proof, and can be dressed with different tails and slow-rolled or pitched/flipped like a jig.

For me there are 2 "just one" or "best" lures to choose from.

#1 choice would be a 3/8 oz spinner bait, white with chrome willow blades. This bait can catch fish in just about any conditions. It can be fished fast, slow, shallow or deep. It will work in most waters most times of the year. Many different fish have been taken with this bait.

#2 choice would be the 6" plastic worm and 3/16 oz weight. It is said that more fish have been caught on the plastic worm than any other lure. The worm will work year round and in any conditions. It is the go to bait for missed strikes. The only problem would be picking the color.

I think mother nature answered that question a long time ago... the best bait ever made is live bait.

Red face Technically Speaking Gd...

live bait wouldn't really be a lure now, would it?

Just givin' you a hard time!

I use live bait (worms, minnows, & shiners) quite a bit for Northern, and walleye along with the majority of pan fishing duties with the "youngen."
