I'm with MT Pockets on this one! I had a braked .300 Winchester at one time. The muzzle blast was viscious!! Recoil was very mild. But the noise hurt! I would only fire it with both ear plugs and ear muffs both (the muffs were 28-29 rated I think??) and it was still painfull!! I made the mistake of hunting with it just once...and never again! I hated shooting that rifle because of the muzzleblast....it was painfull and I developed a flinch due to the noise, not the shove.
Now, I have a ported .44 mag revolver and a ported .444 carbine lever and neither bother me on the range but i have yet to fire the revolver without hearing protection and really enver plan to honestly. Porting is far better than a full on brake imo.

I will never get a brake on anything....I much prefer the recoil. I don't know anybody (accept for a couple that use game ears) that use hearing protection when in the woods hunting, and most of those folks probably wouldn't bother regardless.

Muzzlebrakes certainly have their place, but never again in my rack!
