Sorry to hear that Nulle, someone in Pierre must have it in for you and sees your application coming in and tears it up. I like the preference point system better, where you'd work your way up til it's your turn.

Well we are supposed to have that "system" in SD but get this = One of my friends put in for the first time and on a cancelation of a tag they "called" him and asked if he wanted the bull tag.
Well he took it and did get a Big bull but what the heck is with THAT !

I almost hate to tell you Nulle, my buddy near Custer got a cow tag the very first year he applied, and so did his wife. They aren't real big hunters and only drove around a lettle bit, never fired a shot.

No elk tag

My brother asked for a CO muzzleloader elk cow tag as second choice, a point as first choice, and didn't get a cow tag. This means we are driving 1400 miles to Deloras CO to try and fill the muzzleloader deer tags we both applied for and did get. If he fills his deer tag, he has thought about bow hunting then for elk, but I think that will be tough with a gun season going on, even if it is only muzzleloaders.

Heading for the Grand Teton Range in late October. First Elk hunt. Non resident heading to area 79. I hope to make this type of trip common over the next decade or so.

Well I and the Oldest boy both drew late season elk tags. The boys is not until January 3, 2006. Mine starts December 3, 2005 and runs until Jan 15, 2006. It should be interesting I have never hunted in my area and where the boy drew I have taken 3 elk all cows. So I would say that we have at least a 75% chance of both getting an elk this year the boy should be at better than 90% if he can just stay calm and do his part. He will be shooting a .308 with 180 grain homelaods and I will be shooting my 300 Winchester Magnum with 190 grain homeloads. If I can see it and it's inside of 400 yards it's dead. I let you know how we are doing.

Well today was the first day my cow elk hunt and we went up to the area it was snowing early on we glassed for several hours with no luck saw a few good Mule deer but no elk must still be up on top as there just has not been the snow to drive them out of the high country. We need more snow to make them come down out of the high country.

Got a rag horn bull this past fall.

I will put in for a landowners tag at home for fall 06 and I know I will get it. There are more tags than there are applicants.
