Dog Trust! Well, hitting on any dog will NOT build trust between you and the dog understand. Bonding with your dog takes lots of time and handling it like you would one of your kids. Ops! Now that might be the wrong thing to say to some people because they treat their kids worse than dogs.

Hitting any dog on the head or sides, will soon cause problems down the road. A slight tape on the rear once in a while, after they are adults to get their attention (never in anger) won't be so harmful if you don't get into the habit of such treatment.

I hug all my dogs em every morning, afternoon and evenining at feeding time and before work sessions. You got to spend time with your dog.

There are such things as dog traits, which are passed on to certain offspring of a litter. An agressive dog will only get worse if not handled properly and often these are the biters. If you have a trainer addressing the problem, then you as well need to understand how to correct that dog or mistake, if it should pop up after you take the dog home from the trainers.
